Citizen complaint of the day: Horrible hedges ruining Roslindale

A citizen irate about excessive hedging files a 311 complaint about a hedge run amok on Beech Street in Roslindale:

I don't know how these people get away with letting their hedges get so big they block the sidewalk. When complaints are made, code enforcement has the nerve to say it's not a violation - WHEN THE SIDEWALK IS BEING BLOCKED BY HEDGES. Unwieldy hedges, dirt from their yard coming out from underneath their fence onto the sidewalk. Most days it is barely passable. They need to take the dirt from yard which is now on the sidewalk OFF THE SIDEWALK.

Sidewalks are already pretty narrow here- when a hedge sticks out a 1' into the 'airspace' of the sidewalk, it's almost unusable. Even more so in winter.

Instead of spending time to come on here and complain about, be a good neighbor and good cut them yourself!!!

so your proposal is:

1) get my hedge trimmer, rake and garden waste bags
2) go to their house down the street
3) plug my hedge trimmer into an outdoor outlet I find by poking around their house?
4) trim hedges
5) sweep up all the clippings off of the sidewalk and bag them up.

I'm supposed to be a 'good neighbor' by blowing 40 minutes of my day on their neglect?

Do you... do you think it took me 40 minutes to type a post that people should take care of their own shit?

GTFO.

Magoo is hedging magoo’s bets that nothing will be done about this hedge. The problem Magoo surmises is the lack of hegemony within the bowels of city hall. Next time Magoo is on beech street Magoo is going to look over the hedge to see who resides there. Magoo thinks a hedge fund manager Is as good a guess as any other. Magoo.

This problem could be solved with an undercover mission by a person armed with a hedgeclipper...

OK, not undercover for long, but SO satisfying, I imagine.

Maybe the Tree Ninja could be retrained to become a Hedge Ninja.

Could this be why their previous complaints were ignored?

There is a satellite image but the street view for that block is non-existent. Hmmmmmm.

Yeah I did the same thing to get a "first hand" look at the hedge, but that section of the street hasn't been filmed.

That said, that's barely a sidewalk (per the bing view provided.) A hedge overhang that might go unnoticed on Belgrade Ave. could take over the entire sidewalk on this stretch.

Looks like we need a spring clean from the May Queen

It's such a tiny sidewalk we're walking on. :)

100% on the side of the complainer. This shit is THE WORST in winter, but also really sucks whenever you want to use the sidewalk because, you know, not walking in the street is a solid life choice any time of year and for most homeowners who commit this sin it's year after year after year. They're like the people who only shovel the part of their sidewalk between their driveway and their front walk - I'll take care of my needs, but screw my limited obligations to society.
