Green New Deal Town Hall in Dedham

On Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 7 pm at The First Church and Parish, Dedham, The Charles River Green Coalition will host a Green New Deal Town Hall. The town hall will focus on the existential threat posed by climate change and explain the Green New Deal, a stimulus package designed to combat both climate change and the burgeoning economic inequality in the United States.

The Charles River Green Coalition consists of community members and organizations inspired to action by Greta Thunberg and by members of the Sunrise Movement. The urgency expressed by these young people, and their belief - that we, their parents and elders, may have stolen their future - convinced us that the modest ecological measures many of us have taken, such as recycling cans and bottles and banning paper or plastic bags, are inadequate to address the scope of this climate crisis. We believe that climate change is an existential issue requiring a fundamental change in our economy, politics, and priorities, and that aggressively confronting climate change is the only way to ensure a livable future for our children.

Our panel of speakers will describe the ways climate change is affecting them and how they and we can effect change at the local, state, and federal level. The event will include an overview of the Green New Deal, opportunities for discussion, a question and answer period, and suggested action steps. Attendance at the town hall is free and open to all.
