outside of cigs and lottery, do convenience stores sell anything that you can't already buy at CVS or Walgreens?

The really good Ritchie's Italian ices, scooped from a tub rather than frozen hard in the supermarket freezer case. But however convenient it is to be able to get watermelon ices two blocks from my house, I realize it's not a necessity of life.

Won't hold water.

Look, smoking is bad for our health. This has been known as early as the 1960s.

If smoking is so bad for us, why pick at it, Just rip the bandage off and ban smokes all together.

Oh right.. big tobacco says no. Which is why this ban won't hold water.

Ban smoking? LOLOLOL. Not with the money the state makes off the taxes.

Money first!

Next you'll suggest the state stops pushing gambling at every corner store. Don't you know all that money goes to schools? What about the children? They promised!

When money is involved, to hell with morals.

Yes, let's start a new drug war.

With marijuana being legalized everywhere, law enforcement does need a justification to keep all that fancy military equipment in their hands and all those Constitution-gutting laws on the books. Banning tobacco and dealing with the inevitable black market will make a fine rationale.

If only they'd close to protest the constant littering and environmental damage cigarette butts cause. Must be those damn dogs.

I'd love to know how a ban on menthol cigarettes ends up being equated with racial inequality.

So it's racist to not ban menthols because black folks smoke them.
But it's also racist to ban menthols because black folks smoke them.

These folks would be very comfy in Salem circa 1693.

Family in Roxbury had their mother die at a young age due to the
tobacco Industry targeting young black children with free samples.
So she started smoking at 11 years old.

Now their saying it is racist to ban Menthol Cigarettes??? Can't have it both ways

Lorillard Tobacco Company has known since at least 1950 that cigarettes are addictive and cause cancer.6 Regardless, in 1957, Lorillard implemented a sweeping strategy to market Newport menthol cigarettes to children, particularly targeting low-income black children like Marie.7 Lorillard chose menthol cigarettes for these giveaways because menthol cigarettes are especially good at getting children hooked: menthol anesthetizes the throat, shutting off the natural negative reactions to cigarette smoke, like the gag reflex, that otherwise repels many children.8 As part of this strategy to turn vulnerable youth into lifelong smokers, Lorillard held frequent Newport cigarette giveaway events near Marie’s home in the Boston housing projects, often setting up shop in a playground near Marie’s school. Starting when she was nine years old,9 Marie would go to the playground and simply “stand out there and get free cigarettes.”10 At first, Evans traded the free cigarettes for candy. But soon, attracted by their constant availability and their “pretty” packaging, she began smoking them herself.11 By the age of thirteen, she was hooked

In what universe are menthol cigarettes considered vital resources?

.... that Big Tobacco’s pr is behind this protest and those convenience store owners are just naive pawns who are not going gain anything by this protest. But are going to lose sales during the time they close up.

The tobacco industry marketed menthol cigarettes heavily with the African-American community, tailoring their ads to highlight role models smoking menthols. There is a large disparity in the proportion of African-Americans smoking menthols compared to whites.

The tiny number of people who got sick were using thc juice they got off the street. Hair trigger politically motivated response.

Big tobacco is $ behind the anti-vape uproar. Same as illegal drug traffickers and big pharmaceuticals love our war on drugs.

Big tobacco IS IN ON vaping. Do your research before you trash your lungs. Save your money and get an education instead.

Mama's Market on the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street is closed and a little farther down Morton Street Morton Market have signs about the protest on their shuttered doors. All I wanted was some other than Wonder Bread and a package of Beef Hot Links.
