Man can't kill rat

Adam Sacks, the guy who'd been raising funds to digitally remove the rat from the ending of "The Departed" got served a big ol' case of cease and desist by Warner Bros. Sacks reports Kickstarter has pulled down his fundraising effort after getting a formal complaint from the movie company under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The intellectual property of Martin Scorsese remains in tact.
Just a reminder to Mr. Sacks that the film won Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay (big ups to Infernal Affairs), Best Film Editing, and let's not forget Best Picture.

The Green Book, The Shape of Water and many other not-truly-great movies won plenty of awards too.
Not to mention
He'd already lost with Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas, which were much better movies. Those Oscars were pretty obviously a make-up call.

Only because money was involved/it became publibly visible. People nees to understand how copyright and enforcement work.
Now, me, I'd have paid a college animation/filmģrotoscoping major under the table to do it (and raise funds in a much more discreet way). Call it editing for educational purposes. Show it at the school. Untouchable.
I think you missed the point
If he just wanted to remove the shot, he could have done it in 5 minutes and thrown the result up on YouTube. The point was to make a bunch of jokes and get some publicity, and the DMCA takedown is only helping in that regard (now he gets to be "the editor Scorsese is afraid of" when he hypes his next project).
I don't care about the rat
The movie sucked anyway, but if I were going to make a change to the movie, I would digitally replace Jack with another actor.

Jack was bad
I didn't mind the movie itself. Definitely overrated though, especially for Scorcese movies.
Fun fact:
I worked on parts of it on the film crew. The whole Jack death scene was shot already at the Quincy shipyard.
Wasn't dramatic enough (for Jack, I heard) so it was reshot and we got that glorious shot of Jack chewing up the scenery as he dies in the front end loader bucket.
Absolutely horrible. Mark and Bobbo Walhberg deserved Oscars in contrast to Jack's performance.
