Man hit and killed by commuter-rail train; second such death this week

Transit Police report a man on the Rockport Line tracks in Gloucester was hit and killed by a train around 6:20 a.m. Foul play is not suspected, police say.

On Monday, another man was hit and killed by a Fitchburg Line train.

Being familiar with the area, that train doesn't go through there much faster than walking speed.

I suppose they'll have to consider the pedestrians intent or impairments.
Maybe he or she just had unrealistic expectations of how quickly the train can stop at slow speeds and expected to cross in front of it.

The T will be shelling out a fortune for counselors for the engineers the last week or so, and having to backfill their positions can't be cheap. That's got to be an emotional roller coaster for them.
