Early voting starts today at locations across Boston; drop boxes available for people with mail-in ballots

Boston today opened early-voting locations at several locations across the city, including Gate A at Fenway Park. Between now and Oct. 30, the locations will change (for example, the Fenway Park voting is only this weekend).

Each early voting site will also have a drop box for people who requested mail-in ballots. In addition, Boston has installed 17 drop boxes at City Hall and a number of libraries. They're available seven days a week through 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.

I don’t think I’ve ever waited in a line to vote, in decades of voting in Boston elections. The line right now in West Roxbury is 1/4 mile long. It’ll probably take an hour to get through but it’s worth it.

It's critical everyone vote but I'm curious about the people who go on the first day or two of early voting. The same locations are open every day until Oct 30th plus Nov 3rd.

I too plan to vote early but I'll go mid-week in the last week of October. That will still give me some time in case something goes wrong but I'm guessing there won't be a line.

Unrelated, I miss the election day bake sales. Voting is easy but selecting what things buy from kids is hard.

Most neighborhood locations are only open for a couple of days, either this weekend or next. A few will be open on a Tuesday or Thursday. Boston City Hall is the only location that's open every weekday.

City hall and my Nov 3rd polling spot are close to one another so it's no different but others aren't as lucky.

Still, every town has at least one spot open until Oct 30th.

It's NOT TRUE that all the early voting locations are open every day for in person early voting. The location pictured in Allston Brighton is open only today and tomorrow. Hence the lines. There are drop boxes open every day if you have a mail-in ballot (you can drop it in a box instead of mailing it). But in person voting is much more limited.

The only polling place open for early voting within walking distance from my home (the Jackson-Mann, as a matter of fact) is only open today and tomorrow.

I assume that the rule about no partisan politicking 150 ft from a polling place and definitely not inside a polling place applies to people who wear masks with Biden stuff or Trump stuff on them. Will these people be turned away from voting and asked to change their masks?

Yes, that's my understanding.

If this many people are voting early, I guess the lines should be short on Election Day. Meanwhile, I'll just use my local drop box in a few days.

They were letting people skip the line if they were dropping off absentee ballots.

As of 2 PM the line at the Jackson Mann school is gone. There are still cars and people coming and going but no long delays. Glad to see the positive response.

But I'm not going to deal with traveling from Dorchester just to vote at Fenway Park. That would be far more exposure to other people than I'd be comfortable with right now.

I plan on voting in person tomorrow much closer to home.

Early voting doesn't mean you can just vote anywhere, does it? You have to vote at a location where you are actually on the voter rolls.

You can early vote at any Boston location.

I don't know how it works, but I would assume that if you try to "repeat," they will catch you.

Gotta say, the Fenway Park operation was *extremely* well run. Long lines but moved along quickly and smoothly. And everyone was masked distanced, and nice!
