Health scare on plane from China that landed at Logan

Live Boston reports that around 9:20 p.m., Boston EMTs and public-health official rushed to Logan Airport to meet an incoming flight from China on which nine people were reporting flu-like and stomach-ailment symptoms. But at 9:45 p.m., Boston EMS reported that once on the ground, all the patients were asymptomatic and first responders were clearing the scene.

When radndom people cross the borders illegally, you just hope they are not sick and contagious.

You do realize that Mexico has better vaccination rates than many areas of the US?

The current virus is no worse than the flu?

That the current virus has an incubation period of two weeks and is mild in most patients?

Of course not. That requires education or at least reading widely of sources other than those starting with Q or 4 and ending with Anon or Chan.

Get your flu shot yet buddy?

Who enter the country illegally and anonymously? My point is they can't be screened like people traveling legally through Airports.

as well as the fact that it's not just "teh illegulz" who cross in at random intervals (as opposed to everyone together in a metal tube), and without getting medical screenings.

go to any land crossing and witness citizens crossing with no examination, and who are equally capable of carrying a multitude of illnesses.

I realize that pokes some holes in your Fox News-fueled-immigrants-are-diseased deal, so I apologize.

immigration status has zero to do with it.

Planes. These people were on a plane. They bought a ticket and came over. They would have gone thru customs. Nothing illegal about it.

Also, planes and airports. In the past 4 months I've spent more time in international airports. Whats stopping someone from coughing on me and me bringing it back.

Oh I'm also white.

yeah your entire argument goes out the window. So crap on another group of people elsewhere..

We do not know the incubation period for the virus yet so hopefully anyone that does develop symptoms will self-report later on. This plane incident also highlights the problem with the worried well that occupy resources which is balanced against the principle behind public health of enlisting the public to help us use our resources wisely. There's plenty of other inbound aircraft to Logan that could be carrying passengers who have been in Wuhan or in contact with someone from Wuhan so screening everyone at the airport is impossible.

China may know more already, but that's another story.

I fear there's more to this. Then again look at the Ebola scare a few years ago... nada, zippo. Was a whole scare for nothing. Proceed with caution

But I also second the whole airport thing. 2 weeks ago I spent 12 hours in Heathrow waiting on a flight. Thousands of people walked near me, some were coughing. Whos to say that I wasn't infected too?

Downside to globalization...
