New condo building near Egleston Square bracing for trouble

Boarding up on Washington Street in Jamaica Plain

The UHub Mobile Action News Unit toured Logan and Cleary Squares, Dedham Square, Centre Street in West Roxbury, Roslindale Square, Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, Egleston Square and Forest Hills this aftternoon to see how worried commercial property owners in the outer neighborhoods were getting ready for action tomorrow.

But we saw no plywood at all (except on the old Gilmore place in West Roxbury, which has been boarded up for a long time, because it's falling apart), until we came down Washington Street from Egleston Square, where a couple of guys were busy boarding up the large plate-glass windows on the ground floor of Moxie JP, one of those new condo buildings that have been creeping up Washington from Forest Hills.

Contrast to Downtown Crossing.

Those wascallee wepublicans are going to roar in on their golf carts, from Dover and the Myopia Club, and jack things up.

Oh, the Humanity!

I'm betting that insurance companies suggested this because of all the theft rings operating under cover of "civil unrest" during the marches last summer. Even the New York Post ran articles on that: https://nypost.com/2020/06/02/how-nyc-looters-pull-off-a-well-organized-...

Not sure if Lonnie Durfeee would make the cut for country club membership, either.
But he and his ilk have vehicles and can travel to destroy stuff in places not their own: https://www.news10.com/news/berkshire-county/berkshire-county-man-arrest.... It also protects black-owned businesses from local and exurban teabillies terrorizing minority neighborhoods in high ISIS style like Patriot Prayer out of Washington and Idaho does in Portland, OR, and prevents other sorts of "celebrating" aka the pumpkin festival in Keene.

Meanwhile, the golf club set around here appears to be pumping $$$ into the Lincoln Project and aerating their lawns with Biden signs. At least the lifelong Republicans in my neighborhood are.

Put BPD roadblocks on all the roads into the city from say places like Ashburnham and Grafton, NH, etc... and we won't need any plywood. I'd say any vehicle with a Punisher sticker should be barred from city entry but I do want the suburban cops to be able to get to work. Most of them anyways. Danelicki can stay home.

[This is a sarcastic post, please don't explain to me why this is not feasible.]

As someone who was at the last riot, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that none of the rioters had any “punisher” gear on. I do agree that shutting down roads into downtown would prob help quell the influx of looters though!

You're not from Boston are you @The Kids?
You need roads?

Gentrifiers need to feel uneasy, I suppose.

Gotta wonder how many of those boarded businesses at the Pru are local. Do they think the Brahmins of the Back Bay will set to rioting?

Back in June. Guess the Brahmins of the Back Bay were driving up to Needless Markup to loot then.

Has Back Bay not been gentrified within your lifetime?

And I know lots of people who would welcome any opportunity or excuse to throw a cinder block through the window.

It going to get tough out there I think sorry to say. Never thought I would see things this bad It sad. City realty is that Stamatos ? or just as bad as Dana realty in HP !! No pride at all in their buildings just about the $$$

The Stamatoses are local to Roxbury/JP, City Realty started elsewhere (Brookline/Brighton, maybe?) before expanding into areas that now include JP.

It would be satisfying to many.

It’s a condo building according to the headline. That means various people own the apartments.

Neither the residential nor commercial spaces are fully complete or ready for occupancy.

How long that plywood stays up there regardless of what happens tomorrow? I’m
betting at least 9 months personally.

I can see why they're worried about an unruly mob smashing those windows. Moxie is disgusting.

Adam, I appreciate supporting free speech but this anti-Maine bigotry shouldn't be tolerated.

(why is Moxie, created in Lowell, the official drink of Maine?)

up

In that there was once a Moxie factory somewhere around there. Will post more when I get details.

Per this random website - Moxie was originally called Moxie Nerve Food and was bottled on Heath St. in JP for 30 years?

https://matthewsmuseum.org/moxie/8-the-story-of-moxie

Also Coke bought the brand in 2018.

TIL that Moxie isn't made in Maine. This makes it even more baffling that that swill is so celebrated there. Lovely state otherwise though.

The inventor was from the town of Union, on the mid-coast, beyond Hope.

Moxie and Allen's Coffee Brandy. Two MA beverage exports taking ME by storm.

Saw a t-shirt in Maine once that had the Maine food pyramid. It consisted of a lobster roll, a red hotdog, a whoopie pie, and a can of Moxie.

And The Young Haves who will live there won't even know what Moxie is or the history of why it's named that. And the Have Nots will not be able to afford to live in the very neighborhood they grew up in anymore.

It was mostly Boston-related stuff on Amazon and they up and changed their API (which basically let me type a product name and ASIN number into a form and the software would grab an image, pricing, etc. and format it all in UHub stule) and I wasn't making all that much from sales there, so have put figuring out the new API at the bottom of my to-do list.

And have been sending them out to folks who subscribe/contribute (and if you're one of those folks who have been subscribing since before I went out and bought them, and want one, please let me know your address and I'll mail you one).

Since you asked, send me your address and I'll send one out. But longer term, guess I need to figure out how to sell them.

to go stand on the sea wall in Scituate the next time it rains? No need for an all-wheel-drive news van or anything, you just don't earn your Boston Reporter Merit Badge until you've been sent out there in a storm to remark how high the tide looks.
