UMass Amherst calls off May commencement

UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy told students and parents that he's postponed graduation exercises originally set for May 8 and that while he wants to honor seniors at some point, he really has no idea when that might be possible:

This decision was made with a heavy heart, knowing what a seminal moment this day is in the lives of our students, their families, and the entire UMass community. Unfortunately, at this point, with so much uncertainty about when life will return to normal, I cannot give you a definitive answer for how and when we will honor our graduates, but I can assure you that we will.

Northeastern doesn't charge for cap and gown - free after $70,000 a year in tuition - what a bargain!

It's closer to $80,000 a year, as of 2019. Multiplied by 5 years, because of the co-op program.

Still, what a bargain to get cap and gown at no charge!

Students need to move out by March 22. They will make exceptions for those who have no feasible way to get home. They will also give refunds. All classes online throughout the end of the semester. Libraries and other stuff closed
