John Henry to Liverpool: My bad

Henry, whose Fenway Sports Group also owns the Liverpool Football Club, apologized to fans today for trying to create an American-style European soccer league, an idea instantly and universally spat on by everybody from fans to government officials across the continent:

Is that really what it looks like inside his fortress in Brookline or did he record this in a Courtyard by Marriott? Hideous cabinets. Boring, empty walls remind me of his dead eyes.

This overgrown Montgomery Burns pretending he knows or cares about football and was acting in the best interests of the fans is the biggest FU of all.

Also, he traded Mookie Betts in the prime of his career to save a few bucks, which I will never, ever forgive.

Super League dead as Julius Caesar.

Sox in First. Yankees in Last.

Spring is hereish.

People are getting vaccinated.

Swan Boats are coming back.

Ted Lasso Season 2 July 23rd.

The Revs are going to be good.

There is plenty of crap in the world right now but things are getting better.

The potentates of the soccer world got their arses handed to them by the people. JH knows he screwed up. Just sign Haaland or Mbappe at LFC, don't bring back Sale at Fenway until he is ready and all will be forgiven.

What if Real Madrid and or Barca declared bankruptcy though? My understanding is that their truly dire finances are part of what drove this whole fiasco with the American owners jumping on board.

Does this man have any taste? Who chooses to live in Brookline when they have those money? To say nothing of his other choices.

..... For admitting a mistake was made. Rather than issuing a statement prepared by a PR firm he stood before a camera and admitted to the soccer / football world that he and others made the wrong decision. Good for him!

And for some to criticize how he looks or where the apology was made is ridiculous.

And let's end the Mookie Betts saga. He was not going to sign with the Red Sox no matter what amount of money was on the table. The trade was the only way the team was going to get something in return for Mookie becoming a free agent. Betts signed one of the biggest money contracts in professional sports, a contract that would have tied the Red Sox up financially for years to come. Yes, he is and will continue to be one of the best to ever play baseball.

The trade also allowed the Red Sox to unload David Price, a failed pitcher at that time and now barely hanging on with the LA Dodgers.

I just turned 80 and now enjoy watching the Red Sox on AT&T TV. Thanks to my grandson I am a "streamer."

He was not going to sign with the Red Sox no matter what amount of money was on the table.

This, according to Betts himself, is not true. He just wanted fair market value for his labor. Betts, wouldn't take a "hometown discount," so Henry and co. traded him for a pittance because they didn't want luxury tax payments cutting into their ridiculous level of profits off one of the most fabulously valuable franchises in the history of sports. Screw the fans. Screw the fact that the team was going to suck for 2+ years.

This is the same profits above sport philosophy that Henry brought to the "Super League" founding, and everything he said in the linked video is a lie. So I don't give him credit for lying about his motives on camera, no.
