Somebody taped down a cat, then killed it by shooting it repeatedly with a BB gun in Cambridge

Cambridge Poice report they and the MSPCA are trying to find the person they say used masking tape and a BB gun to kill a cat found early yesterday morning near Hurley and Sciarappa streets in East Cambridge.

An Animal Control Officer with the Cambridge Animal Commission responded to a call about a cat crying underneath a car and discovered that the cat, whose hind legs were bound with masking tape, had already died. The Animal Control Officer brought the cat to Angell Animal Medical Center in Jamaica Plain, where Pathologist Pam Mouser performed a necropsy. A large percentage of the cat’s fur was missing, and the animal suffered multiple BB gunshot wounds across its face and body.

The cat is described as mostly black and shorthaired, with patches of white on its face, neck and paws. The cat weighed 12.3 lbs. Anyone with information is urged to call the MSPCA’s Law Enforcement phone number at 800-628-5808 or the Cambridge Police Dept. at 617-349-3300.

The MSPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction under the state animal-cruelty law, which carries a maximum seven-year prison sentence.

I guess the Smiley Face killer might be real.

That's some Huckabee level depravity.

“Evil” isn’t quite the right word here. Somebody is badly broken; their brain is miswired. They need to be in a cage not for retribution or reform, but simply to protect the world from them.

They catch the psychopath before he moves on to people.

They always do.

Killing animals is how a lot of psychopaths who kill people start out. He'll unquestionably move onto killing people if he's not stopped in his tracks.

Always get their man and they are one police agency that needs more funding

But if we can work out a sentence where this guy's fingers are smashed and then resmashed every time they start to heal, I'll donate a baseball bat.

.... as the person who tortured this cat to death.

Someone torturing a cat to death fills me with a white hot furious rage. Oh well.

That's the answer. That will fix it.

Some people are just rotten to the core. In addition to it being cruel there isn't even any sport involved. The cat couldn't get away. Very disturbing. (I do think it's fitting that the pathologist is named Pam Mouser)

Perseus this in Court.

Seems a bit extreme, no?

But as enjoyable as a thread about Greek mythology might be, you might want to check which county Cambridge is in, and which county Rollins is the DA for.

The answer might surprise you! If, that is, you are letting your spittle-flecked hatred of one particular elected official lead you astray again. Which would be a shame, it truly would.

Wrong county but don’t let that stop you from grinding that axe.

Excuse me while I go hug my cat, who I was just being annoyed at because she wanted to stick her head in my lunch...

How about sentencing this person (when found, tried, and convicted) to having their legs taped together and getting shot in the head with a BB gun for a while?

This is not a case for retribution or deterrence. Whoever did this is not capable of rational assessment of the consequences of their actions. They are simply mis-wired in some fundamental way. Imposing draconian punishment will not reform them. Nobody sane ever wakes up and thinks, “I’d like to torture a helpless animal to death today, but the risk of getting caught and punished causes me to think twice.” Imposing draconian punishment on insane people does nothing to deter other insane people. This is a case for simple incarceration to protect the rest of us.

this is very upsetting. there have been signs posted in the neighborhood for this missing cat for the last week or so. i used to see it jaunting happily down the street from my window in the mornings. and it would come to me for petting when i encountered it in the street.

Yet another example of why you should keep your cat indoors! You never know what kind of future serial killer is hanging around. That's awful. Smh.

Added to the list of reasons to keep domestic cats indoors (or on a leash and supervised outside)
