Two charged with rolling gun battle through streets of Cambridge, one with a child in his car

Men from Brockton and Boston with beef face charges that they exchanged gunfire as they each drove down Rindge Avenue the evening of Aug. 25.

Cambridge Police report that Maurice Morris, 30, of Brockton, and Che Meranda, 29, of Boston, both took several shots at the other between Rindge Avenue and Clifton Circle and Pemberton and Middlesex streets - even as Meranda had a child in the car with him.

Following an altercation, Morris had fired multiple shots at Meranda’s vehicle while they were in separate vehicles in the area of Rindge Avenue and Clifton Circle. Several shell casings were located in the roadway from the intersection of Rindge Avenue and Clifton Circle to the intersection of Rindge Avenue and Clifton Place. Meranda then returned multiple shots at Morris’ vehicle in the area of Pemberton Street and Middlesex Street. Meranda and other occupants then ran from the area and abandoned their vehicle. Morris then drove away from the scene and the vehicle he was in was later recovered in Medford. No one was injured during the shootings.

Morris was arrested Sept. 9 in Everett; Meranda came to the attention of the local police after he was arrested in Florida on unrelated charges. He will eventually be transported back here for arraignment, police say.

Both were charged with armed assault to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet within 500 feet of a building.

Meranda was also charged with reckless endangerment of a child and operating after suspension. Morris was also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Innocent, etc.
