East Boston man pulls out loaded gun in Cambridge fight, but doesn't fire it, police say

Cambridge Police report arresting an East Boston man already listed as an armed career criminal after a fight outside a shelter on Green Street in Central Square.

John Morgan, 26, was arrested on Massachusetts Avenue around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, not far from the shelter, police say:

Morgan was involved in an altercation outside of a facility on Green Street where he punched and pulled a gun on an individual. Morgan was stopped a short distance away. After an investigation, it was determined that Morgan removed a loaded 9MM firearm and discarded it in a trash barrel in front of a restaurant. The firearm was recovered after a brief search.

Morgan was charged with assault and battery, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, police say, adding he was also charged as an armed career criminal - which could mean a longer sentence if he's convicted on the other charges.

Innocent, etc.
