In FrankBakerWorld, if you weren't born here, then shut your yap

Russ W-I lives in Frank Baker's council district. He went to a mayor's coffee thing at Garvey Park this morning, spotted Baker and got into a discussion with him about Baker's vote against a resolution supporting local control of Boston schools, which led into a discussion about the now ended pandemic eviction moratorium. The two disagreed on both and the discussion got heated. And then:

You're supposed to do the classic Boston tactic of bringing it up but not commenting on it, so that everyone knows what you mean but you don't have to do anything as uncouth as directly stating your view that people who weren't born in the same place they live are inferior scum.

Frank called BPS horrendous and called out a wealthy white guy gentrifying Dorchester who thinks he know better than anyone from Boston how Boston should be run.

He's a Chelsea public-school teacher.

Wanted to say that I consider public school teachers wealthy. Meaning they can afford to live.
Much better than I can working in a hospital.

You realize how much they make - correct? You also realize that most spend their own money for supplies for their students, yes? You also realize that many educators work late each day after the students leave and on Sunday's prepping for the next week, yes?

You realize they are not only teachers but also play therapist, intervener, doctor, mother and father?

Don't get mad at the workers get made at the fact that workers have been lulled into the belief that the rich should get richer while the workers pay stay stagnate or drops. Be mad at that.

School teachers regularly make well above the median income and many in the six figures.

See, you're also saying the quiet part out loud.

Guess what: if you're a Boston resident - you're from Boston and you're entitled to a say in how its run. There's no birthplace requirement in the city charter.

I was unaware that MEDFORD was considered a wealthy suburb.

I found that out when I lived there :-)

I think what Frank Baker might have been saying is that people from Boston are less averse saying the word "bullshit" out loud than people from Medford are.

Bullshit

have you been to Medford?

Both AEG and Frankie boy may have been born in Boston, and I was not, but I've lived here longer than either of them. So really, Frankie and Anissa , you're both lesser Bostonians than I am, and btw, fxxx you both.

And furthermore, what is Frankie's problem? I passed him and his wife recently taking a walk near Carson Beach. It was a beautiful day and everyone I saw was happy, except that is, Frankie, who was wearing his "I hate everyone" face.

At least Frankie had a Biden sign in his yard during the election, so there's that.

The reason “Townies” like Frank is that he approaches the job of Councillor as a Job. He works every day, does his job and doesn’t do meaningless resolutions. He wins because the people in his district also get up and go to work every day and know that if they need help his office will respond. But it’s easy for AdamG and the like to use innuendo to besmirch his reputation. Being a liberal used to be about kitchen table issues. It’s hard to find reasons to like the Party now.

More and more each day!

Nice socialist rose in your twitter bio bro.No wonder you think the eviction memorandum should last forever.

That he treated someone with political views that differ from yours crassly? Hey, that's a feeling you are entitled to have, so by all means own it.

up
Voting closed 3

Are taking some random guys (one sided) recollection of a conversation as fact.

Big J journalism.

I have a strong feeling this guy was less than cordial during the conversation. Baker isn’t running around cursing people out.

up
Voting closed 0

I gather you haven't watched any of the few City Council meetings where he's had something to say over the past couple of years, e.g.,

Frank Baker is a man of few words and some of those have just four letters.

The “eviction moratorium” vote in the spring of 2020 was bs. It had zero legal authority. The City Council did and does not have the power to enforce this resolution.

Nevertheless everyone complained that law be damned and we should have rule by council fiat because it felt nice.

So yes, Frank was right despite how you all felt.

up
Voting closed 0

If so, you like Baker more because some random guy's one sided recollection of a conversation that you think may not reflect reality?

Such crassness belongs online only. It should never happen in person.

But if she knew what Twitter was I’m sure she wouldn’t be stupid enough to believe everything she read on it. Especially from a random socialist who clearly doesn’t like a level headed democrat.

Frank Baker can get fucked. I wish I lived in Dorchester so I could vote for his next rival.

up

I disagree with many of their policy prescriptions, but they at least give a damn about people other than themselves. If I have to choose between a socialist and someone trafficking and nativism and white grievance (whether nationally or here in Boston), it’s an easy choice!

This guy being on City Council is amazing and depressing.

It’s the husbands of those who vote for Erin Murphy, Annissa Essaibi George, and the like who keep this guy in office. I swear it is.

This man is perpetually offended and aggrieved about nothing.

up
Voting closed 0

Such a non-story. Why is everyone so prepared to be offended?
Frank is the only common-sense-based elected official we have left in the City. So proud to be a supportive constituent.

I can’t figure out if Russ couldn’t wait to get home and squeal to Uhub or if Uhub had its usual FB antenna up.

love to know what kinds of "common sense" Frank Baker displays, when he's treating someof his own constituents in such a hostile manner.

A thin skinned yukon gold like Frank or something with a thicker skin like a russet?

Congrats on getting your fraud disability claim approved while working as an active captain BTW.

Frank's great. At least he isn't part of the City Council echo chamber at which each councilor tries to outdo the previous one with an even more obvious display of buzzwords. "We must meet people where they are!", "We can and must do better!", "center" this and "center" that, blah blah blah. It's all so much like 'Psycho Killer' by the Talking Heads at every hearing;

"You start a conversation, you can't even finish it
You're talking a lot, but you're not saying anything"

Not to say that Frank Baker would know the Talking Heads from Aerosmith

He might. Would he know Boyz II Men from Bell Biv DeVoe?

The guy asked Baker what he thought of the eviction moratorium. Baker gave his honest opinion. The guy was aghast of how he responded, so Baker noted that people in Boston talk like that.

This is only a controversy if you hated Baker before the two guys met up. Otherwise, yawn. Go back to the land of Michael Bloomberg if you can't handle words.

I'll have to remember how bad language is key to anything, since that would seem to be the only thing I missed mentioning.

I'm sure that Russ left out some of what he said during the interaction in his telling, but I'd say I distilled what happened properly. But sure, tell school me on how my distilling of the interaction is wrong.

to imagine a much different summary if this were say, Tania Fernandes Anderson (or Kim Janey before her) othering a constituent based on where they were born

Thankfully you don't charge rent.

And yeah, I trust Russ' version of events as well as I would trust Baker's version. Because surely Russ wasn't out to start a fight, am I right?

I gotta admit that you picked up on my error and got me back something good.

I doff my hat to you, sir. Well played.

(Still, it does appear my presence in your head doesn't appear to be heading for an eviction.)

Oh, yes, that's all over this area.

My mother was born in the town I now live in. I happened to mention that in a town online debate about "newcomers", and got this in return:

"she's fine, but we're not so sure about you ... "

I was there and witnessed this planned interaction. This ultra left DSA activist clearly came to the mayors coffee event with an agenda to bait and antagonize Baker about a meaningless council vote he took almost 2 years ago. And as usual, you can set your watch by adam gaffin going along with it here on Uhub.

@Anon is an individual person. Is @anon an individual or a name assigned to someone who comments but does not commit to being a member of the UHub community?

Anon = Anonymous

If you post without signing in, you can put whatever name you want to display. If someone types "@anon" then that's the name it'll show in grey when Adam approves the comment (to manually filter spam posts).

Someone else could post using @anon in the name field as well even though it's 2 different people. The only way you can secure uniqueness in your anonymity is to sign up for an account (name shows in blue with link to profile).

There's no way to post without putting something in the name field (either in your signed in profile or at the time of posting when not signed in). So there's no default anon name that will show up.
