Shortly after 11 a.m., these people came running down the otherwise empty stretch of Boylston Street, down near Arlington. People eating outside at the Parish Cafe or just standing nearby cheered them on.
Speaking of this block of Boylston, I noticed there was plastic wrapping ala Christo over the old Shreve Crump and Lowes building as well as several others on that side of the street. Does this mean something is finally being developed there, or was this done to cover up an embarrassing eyesore for marathon runners?
Maybe they're actually starting internal demolition work? From October:
No kidding, developer swears: This time they're really going to start work on new Boylston Street building where Shreve Crump and Low used to be.
In past years, the top two high school distance runners from each of the towns along the marathon route have been brought together on the day of the race to run the last mile of the course and be given a bag of marathon schwag.
