Red Line starts day in the murk; no trains due to issues with track work

At 6:21 a.m., the MBTA sighed there would be no trains to start the day on the Red Line because delays in some overnight track repair work near Alewife meant it had to roll out shuttle buses between Alewife and Broadway.

T leadership has themselves in a pickle as now riders and politicos have access to and can hammer them with accurate headway and trip length data.

E.g everything they told us about the benefits of the orange line shutdown turned out to be abject bullshit.

They have finally been placed in the physical world with their riders, cluelessness and PR lying has been rendered ineffective. Stay tuned for what T leadership tries next!

At some point just operating the system will be easier?

I was at Davis and T employees there were telling us at 5:40 AM that there would be no trains. How in the hell does it take 40 minutes to get that tweet out?

I got an email notice at 5:35 that shuttle buses were being sent, albeit "just" between Alewife and Harvard, followed by a second message at 6:22 that buses were running between Alewife and Broadway.

Wouldn't it be nice to think that some of the track work would fix the slow zones on the north-side Red Line.

A piece of track maintenance equipment (a tamper) had a broken gearbox and couldn't be moved out of the way until a rescue piece of equipment could push it back to the storage yard at Alewife.

I sincerely appreciate the explanation, thanks. Not to sound snotty but maintaining rails in a way that does not disrupt service is a well understood problem, no? Broken tampers with no backup plan to move them *is* the problem, no?

If the problem is money, say the problem is money. Don't make railroading sound technically difficult.
