Who were the first "non-elite" (i.e. second class) male and female runners to cross the finish line, and what were their times? Funny how that's never mentioned either during the race or in the post-race coverage of the "winners".

The tradition of the Boston Marathon was largely built on the fact it's principally a LOCAL race. Sad that the BAA and the media don't give the top "average Joe" runners to cross the line the same recognition they do to the privileged few ('elites') who get their own race devoid of others and all the attention when they finish.

Why doesn't the media doesn't give as much coverage to my beer league hockey team as the Boston Bruins? It's sad that NESN and ESPN aren't coming out to Hockeytown USA to cover our 10:30 PM games but I guess they just don't care about us "non-elites" for some reason.

(meanwhile, as I'm sure you're aware, you can find the full race results right here. Feel free to do your part in hyping up whoever there you think deserves the coverage!).

you might want to look at the story posted on UHub right before this one, which prominently features a non-elite runner.

Edit: a few more for you, just looking at the Globe's site:

Heck, the Globe wrote an article specifically about non-elites!

What about Elon Okasnen? Johnny Kelly? Clarence DeMar? Les Pawson?

The reality is that Boston has had elite runners for over a century. The difference between 2022 and 1922 is that the winners now get paid. All of them, as opposed to when the Finns, Koreans, and Greeks got money to run while Bill Rogers had to train in his spare time.

The first non-elite finisher from this year's marathon will be an elite runner in next year's marathon.

Marathon weekend is big business for Boston, and that's what counts. I'm sure channel 4 has already started the puff pieces about next year's race.
