On top of everything else, MBTA had to pull Orange Line trains out of service due to vandalism

The T reported earlier today that Orange Line riders could expect more delays this afternoon after trains had to be pulled last night due to vandalism, but now says it hopes to have enough cars back in service to provide the New Normal of Orange Line service.

According to the T, somebody "maliciously damaged" windows on a number of cars last night, and the T warned of extra delays during the afternoon rush.

A spokeswoman now says, however, that:

Repair work and window replacements have progressed at a good pace, and we expect to have enough Orange Line trains (ten) for the PM commute to meet the schedules implemented last week.

Transit Police report that windows on three trains were hit hard enough to cause spiderweb cracks, and that they are now reviewing Orange Line video to see if they can determine where and by whom the windows were damaged.

Reminder: The T is currently running the Reagan/Bush-era Orange Line trains because all the new cars are out of service until the T can figure out how to keep their batteries from blowing up.

That would be Carter/Reagan-era, though I believe that most of the cars were produced before Reagan was sworn into office.

That does explain the reduction in the number of trains on the line. It was 10 peak, but I counted 8 today. Sigh. Let's hope for the return to 10 quickly and back to 16 when it's safe to do so. Heck, I can dream of 20, but that's way down the road.

The T says the trains were vandalized last night.

Trains per hour at Assembly, yesterday (6 a.m. to midnight):

4 3 6 4 4 4 5 4 4 3 4 3 5 3 5 4 3 4

Trains per hour today at Malden Center, today:

4 4 4 2 4 4 4 4 5 5

There were no more trains yesterday compared with today so I'm not really sure what changed.

Can't have people believing that Charlie Baker has achieved his lifelong goal of drowning the MBTA in a bath tub - most be *those* people hurtin' the trains!

Yeah. That's it!

Who are you going to complain about when the MBTA continues its streak of terrible service after his departure?

He touched it, so it will be his fault forever. Even in a century, when the old Orange Line cars are finally retired, it will still be Charlie Baker's fault.

Although we know the T will never spend the money to replace those disgusting examples of filth.
