Wind not brisk enough to stop the Roslindale Day parade

Bolivian dancers in Roslindale Day parade

Bolivian dancers on Belgrade Avenue. See it larger.

In addition to these Bolivian dancers, also dancing down Belgrade and up Centre and South: The Morenada-Diablada New England dancers:

There were plenty of other dancers as well in the parade, dedicated this year to long-time organizer and Roslindale booster Tom Donahue:

A number of bands, too, including a large marching band from Quincy:

There weren't all that many politicians in the parade, surprising in an election year. Mayor Wu and aide Dave Vittorini walked the route:

Also walking: At-large Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune and former councilor and current state Rep. Rob Consalvo. The only statewide candidate to show up, though, was Republican Anthony Amore, running for auditor:

Alan Wright, making his usual appearance on his cargo bike:

He later noted there were 100 fossil-fuel-burning vehicles in the four-mile route.

Chacha Haygood (l) with her cousin. Haygood spent the summer going up to strangers in Roslindale, downtown Boston and Quincy just to chat and take their picture, so when she saw some guy taking photos of the parade for UHub, she started talking to him, too:

Sorry, I had kids and did other stuff with a carbon foot print. We can't all be so saintly.

You can transport kids on a bike, and then they can grow up accustomed to biking everywhere.

You can of course make the choices you want, but this whole "I can't do X because I have kids" line is disingenuous 99% of the time. Just say that you've chosen not to transport yourself and your family in a carbon-neutral manner without implying that you're forced to. Own it.

He's a smug, judgy and dour individual, that's all. Good message, bad messenger. Wonder how he heats his large single family house that I believe he lives in with just one other person.

to be bitter about our societal lack of attention to climate change? I certainly can't think of anything.

Yet Wright comes across as a hater of 4+ wheeled engine propelled vehicles.

Even with some of the issues that he crusades about, others are a lot more effective with those issues by being less dickish when spreading their word.

Well you know us women...just a bunch of blow hards...lololol

Good lord - a women gets in a position of power and *some* men just lose their minds.

Bummed to miss the parade this year...but it wasn't Alan's fault.

Was the biggest culprit, halting the parade every time he saw a cop to collect a preemptive bribe.

Morenada-Diablada is a Bolivian troupe. Are the first two photos both them?

They were different troupes, I think (and separated by several other groups).

If there are not one but two Bolivian dance troupes in the Boston area, I’d be very surprised and excited. Could you find out who the other troupe was?

According to the official parade order, the second group was San Simon New England.

Thanks! Who knew? I'll have to keep an eye out for more of their performances.

Their official name is La Fraternidad Folklórica y Cultural Caporales Universitarios De San Simón Cochabamba - Filial New England, or F.F.C.C.U.S.S. for short.

That 1st Bolivian Dance troops costumes are something else! I wonder if the colors and symbols have cultural significance?

I'd think it's a display of a battle between angels and demons. Here are a couple more photos:
