Police say the guy is White, between 30 and 40 and 5'9" to 6' with a stocky build, light mustache and beard and dark curly hair. Police say he was last spotted around 3 p.m. on Harvard Avenue - with dark blue tattoos on his forearms and wearing hoop earrings.

The viola looks like, well, a viola and was in a case covered with BU stickers:

it would be worth a lot more than $70K!

(Obligatory viola joke, they get no respect)

Hopefully they'll offer him 40 bucks and then turn it in for the reward.

understand how a scooter could steal a viola.

Violist left luggage, an iPad, credit cards, and his passport out overnight, and this guy nicks a viola of unknown value. It could have been a rental or a cheap Chinese squeaker. The possibility of fencing a viola is maybe not so good.

Was all the other stuff gone first? Did he make multiple trips? Where's the iPad?
