Area white supremacist seeks to move Capitol-insurrection trial from DC to Massachusetts, where he thinks potential jurors would be less likely to hate him right off the bat

Sahady in the Capitol

Local right-wing organizer Mark Sahady is asking a federal judge in Washington to move his failed-coup trial from there to Massachusetts, arguing that his face has been so plastered over DC media in a community still traumatized by all the rioting that he could not possibly get a fair trial there, even aside from the fact its residents are mostly Democrats.

In a motion filed last week, Sahady's lawyer compared the case to the trial of Timothy McVeigh for the Okahoma City bombings, which was moved from Oklahoma City to Denver. Sahady, a Malden resident, is only charged with misdemeanor crimes for his Jan. 6 activities, unlike participants who actively smashed their way into the Capitol and physically attacked police. But the fear and loathing in a city full of "democrats" and people whose lives were directly affected by what happened at the Capitol means Sahady could only get a "kangaroo court" trial, attorney Blake Weiner wrote.

Sahady, Ianni on bus

These same D.C. jurors whose freedom was directly impacted by the allegations against Mr. Sahady are now being tasked with impartially determining the facts in his case. This denies Mr. Sahady his due process rights.

Weiner writes that Sahady's case meets three criteria set by the Supreme Court to be moved elsewhere. Although the 600,000 potential jury members in DC seems large, it really isn't for something that has national implications that happened locally; the local media has been soaking in "blatantly prejudicial information" about Sahady specifically; and the two years that have passed have failed to dampen local fury over the case - and here Weiner cites a ruling in the Dzohkar Tsaranaev case, although he does not note that that trial was still held in Boston, where the crimes Tsarnaev was charged with took place.

Sahady was not exactly a retiring figure in Boston before Jan. 6, if not an alleged part of an event that has been garnering national headlines for more than two years now - he helped organize racist and homophobic marches at the State House, on the Common and along local streets.

His motion to move his trial does not specify whether he prefers to be tried in federal court in Boston - or Worcester or Springfield, where he might be even less well known than in Boston.

Innocent, etc.

Let's see, what happened in the trial of McVeigh? Have to search for that answer....

I think that Sahady's attorney is exactly the kind of lawyer to guarrantee that Sahady receives a just trial.

His lawyer is reaching and then some trying to compare this to murdering 168 people, 19 of them being children, with a truck bomb. It is scary to think that January 6th will be what Waco and Ruby Ridge were to McVeigh and Terry Nichols. I hope his motion for a change in venue is denied.

When he was first making the news for unite the right the address listed in news stories and a quick whitepages search revealed he was in his mid 40s living in his parents house in Medford. He was a regular in the wild world of local facebook groups and mentioning his living situation was an easy way to get him laughed out of any thread.

Real master race vibes from this goon.

Another Sahady big brain moment:

When the FBI showed up at the house because of his role in the Beergut Putsch he told his mommy, in front of the FBI agents, to go to his room and wipe his hard drive.

After the Judge stops laughing I believe the case will still be held in Washington DC.

Comparing a misdemeanor case to two major felonies? Does Mr. Sahady's lawyer think Boston MA hasn't been inundated with January 6th coverage? It is to laugh.

Sahady is wrong about being "more recognizable" in DC than Eastern Mass is a bunch of crap. After his performance in Aug 2017 "Free Speech" rally and then "Straight Pride Parade" where Boston Police cracked heads he's earned quite the reputation locally. His participation in the J6 Insurrection has not made him into a "DC's most wanted." What a lot of ego for a boy in his 40s who lives in his parent's cellar.
