East Boston caboose could soon be dishing up ice cream

Boston Restaurant Talk reports a couple of East Boston residents are on track to turn the blue caboose at the start of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway (formerly the East Boston Greenway) into a stand selling ice cream and coffee called, naturally, the Blue Caboose.

Lizeth Kelley and Troy Retzer plan to stock the caboose with ice cream from Crescent Ridge. Retzer reports they're hoping to open in early July.

The city solicited bids for vendors willing to do something with the old Conrail caboose - an homage to the days when a freight line ran right to the East Boston waterfront - in 2021.

Magoo had a blue caboose when Magoo was on a nonstop flight to Turkmenistan. Magoo ‘members that it was such a long flight Magoo’s bummy really hurt. Magoo.

Given her fabulous photos, naming the greenway after her is certainly well deserved.

Accidentally apropos, but the greenway is named after a different Mary Ellen, not our wonderful photographer.

But it's more enjoyable to think the photographer is getting the credit she deserves.

I’d buy her an ice cream.

I hope they have mad success and crank ice cream truck music at very high decibels 24/7 for Michele McPhee to enjoy.

We already have one of those ice cream trucks here in East Boston. It blares an out of tune rendition of "Turkey in the Straw" with a very drunken sounding woman slurring "haallooow" every ten seconds. It will be showing up any day now for our annual summer torture.

I'm pretty sure Michelle McPhee moved to Cali a few years back.

If the BPHC was serious about public health, this would not pass.

As long as they keep their freezers in good order?
