East Boston construction company proposes replacing its own headquarters with 40 apartments

GVW Construction has filed plans with the BPDA to replace its current building at 1188 Bennington St. in East Boston with two buildings with 40 apartments - across Bennington from where another developer wants to replace what's left of a former casket factory with 220 apartments.

The buildings, between four and six stories, would share 20 parking spaces in a covered garage, as well as ground-floor retail space and a dog wash for residents.

Seven of the units would be rented as affordable.
