MBTA not going to throw money at Elon Musk

Nichole Davis reports that while the T has applied for a "gray checkmark" to prove it is who it says it is on Twitter, it's not going to pay for the privilege, let alone pay even more to access a Twitter service for providing automated info feeds and that it is "prepared to adjust our social media and messaging strategies as needed." It notes it has a presence on other platforms, including TikTok.

I agree. i wouldn't pay him a dime for this feature. No other social media company charges for access, so why should they start paying now. tens of thousands of dollars each month just to post 'train broken down' in an automated alert is just stupid to do. Not when there's other ways to get this same information.

Plus transit information is a 'public service' and these accounts should be free with unrestricted access. Its these accounts that keep people coming to twitter for information. You start to charge, less automated accounts, less people tweeting. Eventually people will leave (and will leave in droves once BlueSky goes public) because there is no value to stay. Companies/Orgs that did pay will re-evaluate this too, low impressions/interactions, no need to continue to pay for something that has little results.

But since Elon wants to play the extortion game for his failed business deal, so here we are. Dude's make sure that twitter is nothing by the end of the year.

(Reports confirm that he isn't make a dime off these new features and barely breaking even)

Trains are what they do.

Paying sinecures to billionaire brats isn't in their mission.

Bwahahahaha. That idiot needs to recoup some of that overpriced purchase he made.
The majority of folks grumble about paying for Netflix's increases. They're not going to pay a monthly fee for Twitter. Best $44B spent.

Elon might threaten to plan a transit-busting brilliant scheme to dig a tunnel under the city that can move 11 single-occupant cars an hour for only $1 kazillion in public monies

The underlying problem is allowing a corporation to control an entire medium of communication.

The Internet was originally built with open standards. Email? Websites? Usenet discussion groups? All distributed systems not controlled by anyone. It's not possible for anyone to shut them down or make them unreasonably expensive.

Twitter? Slack? Facebook? iCloud photo sharing? Instagram? TikTok? Reddit? Not so much.

We need to push back and return to open protocols.

The MBTA just needs to stop posting on Twitter every time there's a problem or delay and only post when everything is running on time. They'll only need about a post per day first thing in the morning and that still falls under the free use level of the API.

I'm sure the MBTA would love to not post delay or problems on twitter or anywhere public.

I deleted Twitter from my phone. One day after receiving my first Twat from Elon Musk, Twitter suspended my account. Made that decision very easy for me. I had been holding on to it for the @JoeBiden twats but I felt insulted by Twitter for first telling me my account was hijacked which I supposedly fixed by using my Google login, then letting Elon Twat at me, and then suspending my account.

Since they knew obviously knew my account was hijacked why suspend my account? I don't have time for Musky games.
