I hope she is able to fully recover. I'm curious to see what the investigation finds as it seems hard to fall out a window as an adult.

Accident? As Baron Munchausen would say, "vass you dere, Charlie?"

Not surprised. NU stopped monitoring their parties a long time ago.

Not sure what responsibility Northeastern would have for monitoring student behavior if this wasn't in a building that they manage themselves.

They do however pay for a BPD detail to specifically patrol the Mission Hill area Thursday-Saturday evenings looking for parties that may be loud or out of control. Often a rep from NEU rides along with them.

These things happen during quiet gatherings, and can happen even when someone is asleep! There are numerous documented situations where a young person rolled out of a bunkbed in their sleep and crashed out a window.

I had a housemate casually lean against a window and the "tip out to clean" mechanism gave way - fortunately a first floor window and no injuries. There was not a party going on, nor any alcohol involved, just a lack of situational awareness.

Just providing some info for the the response that said NEU does not monitor parties.

Did the incident even involve bunkbeds? Don't think so.

Sorry not today Swirly.

We don't know what it involved.

That was the point that you missed, dear.

But I did get a kick out of your "Numerous Documented Situations" link that literally just had one incident. Way to prove a point.

According to the Boston Globe, that's exactly what happened here too. "She said her friend had leaned against a window that was apparently open and fell through the screen onto the pavement below."

It seems to me that there is a long history of college students falling (or jumping) out windows, many to their deaths. It comes up in the news every few years. Back in the 80s, local band Human Sexual Response even wrote a song about this phenomenon called "Andy Fell".

That’s one hell of a coincidence because, also back in the ‘80s, I wrote a song about my landlord called “Norman Fell.”

They are attracted to roofs, roof decks, balconies and upper level apartments.
Add alcohol and zero common sense and this is what you get.
Look at all the news accounts of injuries from high places.
