Three-alarm fire empties Brighton apartment building; several pets rescued

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 1980 Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton for what turned into a three-alarm fire on at least two floors shortly after 9 a.m.

The department reports several residents got themselves out, but that firefighters went through the building checking all 52 apartments. Firefighters rescued several dogs and cats, in addition to Rascal.

Ah, now I see why firefighters have to wear such heavy outfits -- it's to keep from getting mauled by freaked-out cats. :-)

can get to my building in 4 minutes. when you live in a building with so many tenants, you really value the response time of the BFD
