Althea Garrison decides she's not done yet

Just a year ago, the perpetual candidate said she was hanging up her nominating petitions and retiring from running every year. But Garrison tells CommonWealth Beacon (scroll down a bit) the only reason she's not running for anything this year is because she's focusing on running for mayor of Boston next year.

I mean, the benefits might not be as generous, but at least you don't have to collect signatures.

1. She clearly isn't interested in the private sector or she would have done that decades ago
2. She's an octogenarian trans-woman of color, and the private sector is constantly yeeting out 60+ age groupers of any flavor.

I can't vote for Althea for Mayor of Boston. She's known but doesn't have support. I want a winner like Wu. Met her at ForestHills. Small lady. young too.

The show must go on.

Interesting stats on her Wikipedia page where someone has the patience to list in details all the offices she ran for. I counted 53 total, starting in 1982. Most of her runs were for the office of state rep 5th Suffolk district and city councilor.

She succeeded twice; she spent two years as state rep from 93 to 95 and just under a year as a at-large city councilor starting in 2019.

She ran for mayor once in 2001 and finished a distant third to Menino in the preliminary.

She’ll turn 84 in October.

Famous quote: "I don't do computers, I don't do technology."

She is the definition of never give up. I’ll kind of miss her when she’s gone but not until then.

People who would normally support a trans person, hating on a trans person running for political office.

Trans people are not a monolith. If someone thinks Ms. Garrison would not do a good job as mayor then they shouldn't vote for her. Case closed. Conversely, if they vote for her ONLY because she is trans, regardless of her policies, that really doesn't do anybody any favors either.

Unfortunately Althea appears to be a self loathing trans person. She proudly has been, and as far as I know, still is, against same sex marriage. And as a public figure, asking for my vote, she has never to my knowledge acknowledged her identity to the voting public.

I'm a gay man, and I support Althea's right to be a trans woman but I hate her politics and wish she would go away.

Another canard that has got to go, along with the ever-popular "all boisterous homophobes are actually secretly gay" garbage (an extremely homphobic concept in itself, if you look at it closely) is this "self loathing" business. It's thrown around simply because somebody doesn't always follow the agenda or ideology one thinks they should to fit into the LGBTQIA+ "monolith" model. I am a gay man who's ideas and politics don't always follow the LGBTQIA+ "party line", if you will, and I am anything but self loathing, I can assure you.

As for not acknowledging, Althea comes from the same era, or maybe mindset, I do, where one does not need to lead with identity, as in "trans politician", "multi-racial, queer writer", "non-binary musician", etc. The work spoke for itself. And if the work has to do with your identity, people will get the message.

don’t qualify as “people”, you’re misclassifying the rodents.

Dehumanization is one of the first steps to a fascist or totalitarian communist regime.

If you hate Althea Garrison that much to characterize her as a "rodent," maybe Trump's not so bad.

You have zero moral high ground, lowlife. Get out of here with that crap.

The guy who wants to systematically deprive women and children of lifesaving medical care that makes him uncomfortable - as if it was any of his business - is complaining about totalitarianism.

Go grow up somewhere else.

As for "dehumanization", you and the Trumpers started that dear. All the trans, gay, and woman hating you have done here while calling for their bodily autonomy to be sanctioned is also dehumanization.

I'm against kids being castrated, chemically and otherwise, and mutilated (elective mastectomies). That's it.

Adults can do what they want.

The amount of hate I get from you for my mainstream, European government position is demented.

Althea agrees with me.

Look at the lying trunt bringing in his big gun: the non sequitur. You trolls and your troll garbage. It’s always the same.

Let me repeat: you don’t have any moral high ground. You gave it up for political expediency and to own the libs long ago. Here’s 34 lols for you, lowlife. Enjoy them.

Such obsession with children's genitals. Get therapy, pervert.

Oh, but I guess trans teens are easier to exploit when they are not receiving gender affirming care and thrown out of their homes - and more aesthetically pleasing to your tastes?

Or keep your filthy pedophile obsessions to yourself - aka mind your own business and own body parts.

I'm a pervert because I take the position of the Swedish government and say kids should be left alone to grow up and not chemically and surgically altered? And you think ten year olds should be "transitioned," put on puberty blockers and perform in drag shows?

O-tay.

Althea has a point.

I have reconsidered and just sent $100 to Trump's campaign/legal defense fund, in honor of you and dan_r

At least he will keep crazed caustic crones and murderous shitlibs far from federal power.

bringing "kids" into the conversation, nobody else is, trunt. Why don't you face the argument that's in front of you? I know, as a trunt, you're congenitally dishonest and unable to face reality, but maybe you can get someone more able than you to read the posts to you and explain them.

There, that's one for each felony conviction. Why don't you give the felon who robbed the children's cancer charity, started a fake university, and slept with a porn star on the eve of his third wife's childbirth some more of your disability check?

You are obsessed with children's genitalia. Pervert.

Don't see you getting worked up over circumcision, and you don't have a single qualm about tossing intergender kids' health under the bus with your quest for purity. Kids born with abnormalities that threaten their health will get swept up in your intervention bans, but, heck, that's fine with you if someone born with a disability dies for your ignorant dehumanization quest/desire for victims.

It's as much bias if I support someone running for office because they're trans as if I oppose them because they're trans (assuming they're not otherwise exactly the same as their opponent in terms of positions on issues, etc.)

People hate on Althea because she's got some loathsome positions. Doesn't matter if she's trans or not - I wouldn't want anyone with her views voting on issues that matter to me.

You're suggesting hatred of Althea because she's transgender? Hahaha haha

Are you so unfamiliar with her stance on issues from abortion and beyond?

Come on, John, be better.

But I guess for you and for all those thumbs-uppers who apparently haven't figured this out:

Saying "I support Group X" does not mean "I support and endorse every decision, statement, action, etc taken by every single member of Group X".

(this should be obvious to anyone who's actually able to see trans people as human beings and not just political props, but, you know, here we are)
