Boston Common kiosk to switch from the Earl of Sandwich to the duchess of baked goods
By adamg on Wed, 12/11/2024 - 12:09pm
The city announced today that Joanne Chang's Flour has won a lease to re-open the former Earl of Sandwich kiosk on Boston Common this coming spring.
"We look forward to making Boston Common a sweeter place this spring with our beloved Flour pastries, salads, and sandwiches, as well as new treats exclusive to this location," Chang said.
Work to convert the former sandwich kiosk should begin soon, the city says. The Earl of Sandwich, which shut this year, itself required renovation work to convert what had been a long abandoned men's comfort station into a sandwich kiosk in 2011.
The new location will be Flour's tenth.

Good change!
Flour is delicious and homegrown local. (If not also pricey.)

The secret to affording Flour is hanging around for the free refill on coffee. And the price falls by a buck if you bring your own mug.

Opinion: used to love Flour...
...but as they over-expanded the quality declined slightly. They have lost their special-something. It's not bad -- it's just not as good as it had been at first.
However, it's still got to be better than the Earl.
(Tangent: Don't get me started on Pressed....)
Agree on some things
During 2020 and 2021 we got pies from flour for the holidays that were amazing. In 2022… tsp apple pies that were raw inside. They refunded without iss7e but have found their quality was better during pandemic!

I liked the early Earl of Sandwich early offerings but their menu changed after that rally in the rotunda that was so massively protested.
I will check out the new place when it opens.

Oooh. Fancy. (I mean- too fancy.) Give the peoplea hotdog stand.
You mean the hot dog stands scattered around the park?
There's arepas and Italian sausages with peppers and onions too, if you're feeling fancy. JFC.
@Oxenfree
Earl of Sandwich used to have several different Hot Dog variations on their menu when they first opened.
Big improvement: from an airport chain sub shop
you can find anywhere in the country to something with actual local flavor.
