Charlestown vows to keep a close eye on possible soccer stadium next door in Everett

The Charlestown Neighborhood Council is setting up a Soccer Stadium Committee to ensure Charlestown has some say on the 25,000-seat soccer stadium Robert Kraft wants to build just over the line in Everett, near the casino, the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge reports.

I'm still laughing at all those morons who punted on the benefits of a casino so that the next city over could have it because DURR TRAFFIC

Is that even a problem, five years later? Does anyone really care about Encore?

It is a problem. There is only Rt 99/Broadway to get in or out of there, currently.

They improved Broadway and the casino doesn't generate the kind of traffic that East Boston was concerned about. The valet line is longer than the traffic on Broadway on a Friday evening.

The Revolution will never leave Foxborough. You can't get to Everett. Going there would be like going to a Millwall match.

It's literally a mile from an exit on 93. It's actually CLOSER to a major highway than Gillette.

AND it's on the Orange Line (with casino shuttles going to numerous other locations). Gillette is barely serviceable from the commuter rail....once per event...sometimes.

Are you even on this planet that you think Gillette is more convenient than Everett?

I think I've been to Gillette twice in the 25 years I've lived here. Both were for concerts, not sports games.

Its stupidly hard to go get to. Yeah they run game day / event trains but even still, you gotta book it after the show is over to catch the train coming back otherwise you are screwed with a capital S.

Everett.. I can walk to. Or take one of several buses to that area.

Also one thing about soccer... its not super huge here but overseas. Soccer is life. Everett has a very large and healthy Brasillian population that live for soccer. (and to a lesser extend Chelsea and its latino population does too).

Building a stadium in Everett will be a win win for soccer fans. It will bring the matches closer to home and easier to get to.

You don't come off to me as a member of Combat 18.

There is a commuter rail station a few hundred yards from Millwall but the main line between London and Brighton just keeps going past. They know where the filth is and keeps going.

PS - I like my free parking at Gillette for the Revs. I also like it that with the team not moving anytime soon so the nerds in The Fort can't march from Union Square to Everett thinking they are special. Well, they are special, just not the way they think they are.

“…a former power plant.”

(Yeah, there’s no story or local color there. Was that downplayed to “…a former power plant,” to be cheeky?)
