Ron Newman attended the pro-democracy protest downtown today.
Erica Fletcher also participated in the Stop the Coup protest.

The protesters marched from the Parkman Bandstand to the JFK Federal Building.

neither the size nor the composition to base a mass movement on. Your basic tenured academic class.
I liked the "Valentine" with the Statue of Liberty until I considered it was almost certainly AI rather than the work of a human.

Thus, 8 people were inconvenienced. Â
I was downtown when they went up Washington Street. I mentioned to my friend that this only put some Uber Eats delivery drivers 4 second behind their running scooters the wrong way up School Street.
I am more of a direct action kind of person. These people aren't. This is "isn't it great we are protesting" vibes.Â
If you are going to protest the Federal Government, don't go to the State House. That's the STATE HOUSE as in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. That's not a Federal Building.Â
Go to Chelsea where the FBI is. Go to Burlington where ICE is. Go shut down some Trump voting town centers, like Middleborough or Tewksbury not a winter post lunch DTX.
It might be out of the way but that is where the action is, not the Parkman Bandstand. Â
No wonder Harris lost. A lot of her voters are playing too nice.Â
Â
looking forward

To you being the first at any of those locations, John. As a self-proclaimed "direct action kind of person" I assume you're organizing something as we speak, right?
Yup

I really don't think you're in any position to be calling anyone or anything "cheap" or telling anyone to "cut the crap". Clean up your own act first.

Was discussing the protest with someone at work yesterday and reached a mild epiphany that a possible major difference between now and the relative size/ ferocity of 2017's protests is there was less of a true believer element to Harris' support last year compared to what seemed to be with Hilary Clinton in 2016
organizing is harder than criticizing

So, when and where is your next action?Â
Also, in case you missed it, the JFK Building is federal.
Did you even read it?

We didn't march to the State House. We marched to the federal building. I'm sorry you were not inspired by the protest. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hold a protest against the Secretary of Surrender and I might go. Someone should mention to the Defense Secretary that his take on Russia’s “take shit back†energy doesn't mean take shit that a dead imperial “empire†stole and lost.     Ukraine bravely ejected Putin’s puppets and nobly pays the price of Putin sending in Russian soldiers out of uniform, firing a shot over our bow by shooting down MH17, rattling the nuclear saber and marching an army World War style into Europe and now there’s the specter of Ukraine going back to pre-2008 puppet status minus territory and Europe has a Russia that’s leveled-up to wreak more havoc and crime by munching on Ukraine? Trust me, we don’t want a stronger Russia. It will only become the more parasitic. Russia has no game other than to get its tendrils into everything (ALL YOUR IP ARE BELONG TO US) around the necks of their neighbors.  Render unto Trump that which his mandate mandates, but I sure as hell have reservations about his intentions in FP.Â
I didn't vote for Elon, either.

Nobody did.
And this is a very important wedge issue with people who voted for Trump.
Did you vote for a "strong man"? Well then, how do you feel about a 4 year old telling him to shut up while his daddy stood looming over them both?
Did you vote for cheaper groceries? Okay. Where are these cheaper groceries? Lower gas prices?Â
BTW, are you going to have your disabled aunt move in when she loses her SSD?
We have to be honest - people with GOP reps have the power to stop this shit now. Yeah, we will still have GOP rule. Yes, Trump will remain president, but getting the "base" riled up over this usurpation of power with abdication by their representatives will go a lot further.
When the face eating leopards move in for their meals, that's an organizing opportunity. Gloat in private, but offer empowerment with the bandages.
Just start with "I didn't vote for Elon, either" and follow with "what are YOU going to do about it"?
yes, this

If your friends or relatives travel, air traffic control and the TSA are federal. If they get their health care from the Veterans Administration, that's a federal agency. Child with a learning disability? Elon just cut off funding for special education programs. Worried about bird flu? That's the CDC.Â
Wedge issues, and it's easy not to think about how much is either done, or funded, at the federal level, until someone starts taking an ax to the entire structure.Â

“Trump administration officials fired more than 300 staffers Thursday night at the National Nuclear Security Administration — the agency tasked with managing the nation’s nuclear stockpile — as part of broader Energy Department layoffs," CNN reported. Adding, “Sources told CNN the officials did not seem to know this agency oversees America’s nuclear weapons.â€
Who thinks that the people safeguarding nuclear weapons are extraneous, except America's adversaries?
Meanwhile the Republicans are readying an omnibus bus which greatly increases the deficit by spending trillions more on immigration cops coupled with huge tax cuts for billionaires.
Nothing Trump/Musk is doing is intended to reduce spending or the deficit or improve the lives on non-billionaires. It is entirely a cash grab.Â

Not only did they fire staffers at the NNSA, but when they realized their "oopsie" they found themselves having trouble undoing it since the fired staffers lost access to their email.
And now those staffers are consultants.

I'm sure plenty of defense contractors, if not Musk himself, will offer their services at 1000x the cost that just having a federal department handle the tasks directly. (These contractors will hired the former staffers if we're lucky.)
So what did we get? Lower costs? Nope. Better security? Nope.Â
Everything Trump/Musk is doing is to use tax dollars to enrich themselves while reducing any sort of oversight that could cost them money or power. It's theft and corruption

It's not. Trump voters voted for Trump because they like that he stirs things up and trolls liberals. Musk trying to drain the swamp seems awfully coherent with Trump 45's goals.
Hard core MAGA wouldn't have been enough

20-25% of voters aren't enough. That's why Biden got in.
I suggest you look into some of the data on who voted for Trump and why, then look into how some are reacting now that the leopards are coming for their faces.
Some were just freaked about immigration, but now are upset because their families are facing unemployment due to the techbro asshats firing people whose jobs they don't understand.
Some believed he really would reduce the cost of living, but cry about continued inflation due to the tariffs.
Farmers who always vote GOP because they always have now trying to figure out how to pay the bills.
I could go on, but I suggest you look into this for yourself. Even the hard core MAGA folk are feeling the heat, but they are delusional about paying the tariffs on their Temu orders. Others are getting straight up regret.
