Boston.com posts a copy of the genial invite from House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who is now heavily invested in sniffing out immigrants under all the beds now that he can no longer continue his crusade against Hunter Biden, given Biden's pardon and the fact that Comer's star witness against him has pleaded guilty to making up shit about the Bidens (and also evading taxes).
Comer calls Boston an "abject failure" for its sanctuary status along with Chicago, Denver and New York, whose mayors were also "asked" to testify, although we suspect New York's indicted mayor will get a softer reception given to how he's now offering major political tongue to the Convicted Felon in Chief.
Comer wants every single document, e-mail and text, basically ever, that Wu and other Boston officials have ever written or exchanged about the city's pledge to not help ICE bust into every last church and bodega in search of brown people, especially in a state that has a court ruling specifically telling local police and officials not to cooperate with federal agents in tactical gear stomping around looking for people not charged with what the Commonwealth considers crimes - not that you'd know we have such precedent by listening to our governor declaring we are not a sanctuary state and so have nothing to fear from ICE.

P.s., I realize the fortune cookieism that “there are no illegal people,” sounds reasonable, but “illegals” is a term of art in monitoring foreign nationals, so isn’t MSNBC engaging in obfuscatory, misleading language in correcting (and thereby editorializing and opinioneering) the on air use of the term “illegals?” I mean, of course a person in their being can’t be illegal. But, by censoring a word you are creating a hurtle, a barrier in public discourse.

They'd force complice by cities by withholding grants. But now it looks like the feds are withholding grants to all cities, even the "loyal" ones, probably to squeeze every penny into further tax cuts for billionaires.
So I didn't know what they plan to threaten Wu with. It's clear Trump and friends will try to make Boston in particular suffer as much as possible irrespective of any backpedaling Wu could possibly do. (Not that I think she will.)
I suppose it's possible they could offer to take the knee off the neck if Boston elects Kraft. I guess that's one way he could win.

To promote "The Safest City In America" to a national audience.
We may bicker about our crime issues at a local level. But some of our stats are really impressive compared to national peers - especially homicide and violent rates. And we have a very diverse, very immigrant rich, community.
Since the current veneer of the R's mass deportation pogrom is 'public safety' and 'national security', Her Honor can educate the Chair how public safety is achieved (receipts in hand) not thru terrorizing large swathes of a city, but by doing the hard work of building trust and dialogue among residents and officials, and respecting the dignity and lives of each of those residents. And this is how to identify and eliminate actual threats to safety and security and peace - rather than the bogus images ginned up by demogogues and political opportunists.
. . that's what can be learned from the mayor of "The Safest City In America".

MBTA Communities is a law that was passed by our legislature and implementation has been advanced by both republican and democratic gubernatorial administrations. The current president’s intent to withhold already obligated funding as a form of retribution is contrary to laws passed by congress and is an obvious violation of the separation of powers.

Because “undocumented immigrants” is not a law, it’s an obsession of the Orange Guy. As soon as congress passes a law stating that states and municipalities “shall” cooperate with ICE or have their funding revoked, then you might have a point.

The legislature adopted MBTA communities—including the part about withholding funding—and it’s the administration’s job to implement it. If the administration said “oh well some people don’t like this law so we will just give grants anyway even if they haven’t complied with the law.”

“…regular “interview” on Boston Public Radio…”
Try, regular platform for back-scratching, praise and nothing ever substantially more than a token softball question that may elicit a firm talking point, maybe a whiff of first order explanation, but no debate. “‘GBH” will never risk burning their bridges, or turning off their chosen audience, so their “interviewees” will never come out tarnished. There’s nothing these top pols say that can’t be said in half the time, and there’s nothing we learn from them that can’t be learned from a staffer, or local expert.
BPR cut these Mayor/Governor/AG bully pulpit hours by half and follow up with an hour and a half of reputable local poli-sci folk who adhere to the spirit of fair discourse and debate!!!
I’m not saying there’s nothing to learn from these BPR State and Local Leadership Platforms, it’s better than Jim and Margery going on and on about doilies, or whateverthefuck they pad their time with and waste our time with. There’s too much to discuss to be wasting time on inane “who’s the a-hole” social media gazing.
Give the people ‘Talk of the Nation,’ back.
Sure, the audience may be streaming-off to their safe podcast and streaming bubbles, free from discomfort, but the free airwaves of the FM and AM dial are the town square and are a pillar of democracy. “NPR*” (*et al.) has a responsibility to the people, their purpose is not to be a springboard for commercial enterprise. NPR’s mission has been poisoned by underwriters not saved by them.

NPR stations get less than 1% of their funding directly from the federal government and about 10% indirectly.
It's a common misconception that an overwhelming majority of their budget is coming from the feds but that was never true and even at its peak before the mid-80s it was only a bit more than half.

“In reality, our job at the city level, especially, but I would say, in government in general, is to understand the law, is to follow the law, and to know to go by facts, rather than just sort of made up stuff,” she said before referencing Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, which was quickly blocked by a federal judge.
I look forward to her calling the Trump administration bigots to their face.
This will likely help her reelection campaign more than anything she can do on her own!

While Wu has the stubbornness of a toddler. For the most part, Americans have voiced that tax dollars we provide the government should be spent on improving their day to day life and not be spent on migrants. Ernie Adams had a good break down of what a sanctuary city technically means on Tucker Carlson podcast, assimilate into society and pay taxes via wages or sales tax (obv more too it and I suggest the listen) it is not hitting the lottery where everything is paid for and you can do what you want while the actual taxpayers go without. Mayor Adams also had some gems about the bike lane mafia towards the end of the episode.
I dislike NYC but for once I am jealous of their leadership in comparison to ours. And before ppl start throwing out he was indicted etc… take a listen to him on that podcast. He was indicted for pretty much nothing only after he voiced concerns about migrants draining his coffers for over $6B and didn’t play nice after he was told to be “a good democrat”.
