When a busker is bounced

Carmen reports the cop didn't seem very happy about it, but he still ran a busker out of the South Station T stop last night for not having a permit - and that really annoyed all the people who'd been listening to him:

... One woman thought it was all her fault, that she had brought attention to the busker by asking him to play a song for her. She had been singing along when the mean cop came along. "I feel terrible," she said. "I've been working up my courage for weeks just to ask him to play that song for me."

Nothing quite like a good scandal to get the juices flowing

The Outraged Liberal compares the coverage of Sal DiMasi's possible imminent departure and the news that Gov. Patrick is cutting $128 million from local aid - which helps pay for police, firefighters and road repair:

... Welcome to a journalism feeding frenzy -- created by a local press corps that doesn't routinely cover the daily ins and outs of a $26-plus billion industry, prefers gossip and rumor over facts and wouldn't know context if it hit them in the face. ...

He does give props to the Globe for putting the local-aid story on the front page.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT PATRONS ARE INSANE

As I sit here watching the virtual waiting room clock count down, again, from 30, all I can say is: Thank goodness for resizable browser windows. Anybody have better luck (and do I want to know)?

Girls claim two guys tried to abduct them in Roxbury

Boston Police report they are looking for two guys for an incident around 9 p.m. on Thursday:

On arrival, the officers spoke with two victims, two girls ages 12 and 14. The victims stated that while walking on McGreevey Way they were approached by two suspects. One victim stated the suspect (operator of the motor vehicle) made threatening and sexual comments in an apparent attempt to lure the victims while banging the handle of a large knife on the outside of the driver's door. The victims, still walking on McGreevey Way, ran to a neighbor’s house for help. The victims then stated that the suspects drove down McGreevey Way towards Parker Street, taking a right onto Parker Street and from there directions unknown

Police described one suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic, about 20, wearing a white and red hat, a black jacket and carrying a knife with a black handle. The other was described as a dark-skinned black male, about 20, wearing a black hat and black jacket.

Ed. note: I hate to be skeptical, but ...

The Spaceman returns to Boston

Bill Lee

Think "municipal finance" and Bill Lee probably won't be the first person to come to mind. But there he was today at the Massachusetts Municipal Association meeting at the Hynes, where Paul Keleher photographed him.

A Universal Hub group on Flickr

Thanks to suggestions from Kalim Saliba and folks in this discussion, I've set up a UH group on Flickr. Anybody with a Flickr account can join in and post their best Boston-area photos to the group, discuss Boston photography, snort at my photo judgment, etc. As with the universalhub tag, I'll pick photos for highlighting here (if you don't have a Flickr account, but took a cool photo, e-mail me).

If only Boston had another DailyCandy for dudes

Is Boston big enough for two newsletters aimed at the Axe Generation?

Thrillist Boston, which already tells young men What to Buy, is about to get competition from UrbanDaddy, which is advertising for a local dude-oriented writer to write up "what's new, hot, exciting and essential."
