Because if you've shoved the thing in your pants and then, when you realize the police chasing you are going to get you, you throw it atop a snowbank, the gun will melt some of the snow and the police will be able to use that as evidence that you were holding the gun moments earlier.
Boston Police report that when some nearby residents called in about some dudes in a suspicious looking car getting out and then going into an Orlando Street backyard last night, responding officers found three guys there:
When officers approached the suspect, the suspect took off on foot, turned to his friends and yelled, "Go! Go! Go!" As officers were chasing behind the suspect, officers noted that the suspect was clutching at his waist area in such a way as to suggest he was in possession of a firearm. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect.
In short order, police say, officers found another suspect and the gun sitting where one of the alleged perps had allegedly tossed it in the snow, which had melted a little due to how warm it got in one of the suspect's pants.
Eric Barnes, 23, of Boston and Jason Monteiro, 24, of Boston were both charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and trespassing.
Innocent, etc.
