Todd English: Sellout supreme

MC Slim JB tucks into the local chef gone national, says he deserves all the scorn he gets from Bostonians these days:

... We understand his real motivations perfectly, and we don't fault him for grabbing the brass ring. But the bottom line for Bostonians is that a chain -- no matter how gifted the man at the top, nor how skillfully and glamorously he markets it -- is still a chain. Maybe you can fool your new fans, but it's tougher to put one over on the old ones.

New Yorkers may be tiring of him, too.

When policy wonks get mad

Deval Patrick came out of a meeting with Therese Murray and Bob DeLeo and said he angrily wagged his gubernatorial finger at them for failing to squeeze enough reform and money out of state transportation agencies. Murray replied:

I'm a little confused. He just gave us a spreadsheet, and we said we'd go and look at it.

You do that, Ms. Murray. See if you can miss the angry red borders around all those cells.

Alleged dog kicker arrested near Dudley station

Kicked dog

The allegedly kicked dog, in Transit Police custody.

Transit Police report arresting an alleged drunk whom witnesses say was kicking the hell out of a little terrier yesterday afternoon near an entrance to the Dudley bus stop.

According to police, around 1:25 p.m., witnesses watched Cielo Caraballo, 49, abuse "a small, light colored terrier wearing a purple leash" - and one tried to intervene:

A woman stated that she witnessed Caraballo kick the dog multiple times with his right foot (shod). She also stated that she witnessed Caraballo let go of the dog's leash and stagger away from the dog. She also observed the dog to nearly get hit by two buses and cars once Caraballo let the dog go loose. She asked Caraballo several times to please give her the dog because she did not believe Caraballo could adequately care for the animal. Caraballo replied, "Get away from me and my dog"! I interviewed the second witness, who stated she observed Caraballlo, on several occasions violently yank on the dog's leash in an upward direction causing the dog's neck to jerk in an unnatural up and downward direction. She also observed Caraballo kick the dog multiple times with his foot. The other two witnesses stated they also observed Caraballo kick the dog with his foot. In a fit of rage, Caraballo was observed yelling racial epitaphs to people in and around the area.

Caraballo is scheduled for arraignment on animal cruelty charges in Roxbury District Court. The dog, which police say may belong to his ex-wife, was taken to the city animal shelter in Roslindale for care.

Premature celebration at the Globe?

Sure, we have good sports teams. But did any Page 1 editor look at the last few days' scores? With the Red Sox in last place at 2-5, and the Celtics blown out in Cleveland on Sunday, I would have spiked this story.

Guy charged with firing at cops no stranger to police

John Mentor, 22, of Hyde Park, who allegedly took a shot at cops in Hyde Park last night, is scheduled for arraignment in West Roxbury District Court this morning on a charge of assault with intent to murder, according to the Suffolk County DA's office.

In 2005, when he was 18, Mentor and a pal were arrested on charges they robbed and shook down younger teens on buses out of Forest Hills. He was also charged with cocaine possession.

Innocent, etc.
