She was that passenger the flight attendant goes around asking if there's a doctor on board for

Pauline recounts her recent flight back from Los Angeles:

... As soon as I woke up, I felt incredibly lightheaded and began to black out. I turned to my neighbor and informed him of this development, and he immediately went to get a flight attendant. Suddenly everything went down, the announcement was made, and within a couple of minutes, an oxygen mask appeared on my face, a kind silver-haired ER doc was taking my pulse, and the flight attendants situated me on the floor of row 16, seats A-C (exit row) with my legs elevated and stretched across the aisle to seats D-F ...

Michael Sullivan: 'The arrogance of a self-defined crusader'

Mike Ball takes some time to read the judge's decision barring Chuck Turner from talking about discovery evidence, and notes that while the judge ultimately agreed with the US Attorney's office, he found much to dislike about that office's handling of the case so far:

... His decision details the inequality in permitting Sullivan to distribute pix of the pols grabbing the dough they did not report while ordering Turner to stop his melodramatic spewing of evidence to counter the obvious. In no small part, Turner lost this motion because he so heavily overplayed his hand in rallies, press conferences and media appearances. He's never been subtle and never been shy, but his theater suggests he may not be anywhere as bright as his I-have-a-Harvard-degree cutout suggests. ...

Judge bars Chuck Turner from discussing pre-trial evidence

The US Attorney's office won a round today when a federal magistrate agreed to its request for an order keeping embattled City Councilor Chuck Turner from publicly discussing "discovery" evidence turned over to his lawyers as a matter of course by prosecutors.

The feds says they sought the order after Turner held a series of interviews and rallies to press his claim of innocence on bribery and conspiracy charges. Magistrate Judge Timothy Hillman wrote that he agrees with Turner's contention that he has a right to defend himself in public. However, he said the government proved that if Turner publicly discussed the voluminous discovery documents he could jeopardize his - and co-defendant Dianne Wilkerson's - right to a fair trial as well as put at risk government undercover agents, informants and innocent third parties mentioned in the documents.

Just because somebody hands you something on a stick doesn't mean you should eat it

Especially if you're a runner, as Dawn found out during a recent race, when a volunteer at the 6.5-mile mark gave her a Popsicle stick covered with what looked like gelatin:

... "Thanks!" I said with an equally friendly smile, and I put the entire wad of stuff in my mouth.

...at which point the entire table of volunteers began to scream. "no no NO! You don't EAT THAT!!!!" Because in fact what I had just put in my mouth was something called "Biofreeze." ...
