A Miami developer has proposed a new complex over the Massachusetts Turnpike and a rarely used Hynes Green Line exit that would include a 12-story life-sciences wing, a 10-story wing with 125 affordable apartments, two new ADA-compliant T-stop entrances and a public bicycle "hub" with bike racks and lockers. WBZ Archives: The Final Ride of the Orange Line ‘El’

In 1987, the MBTA shut the elevated Orange Line south of Back Bay so it could eventually switch over to the semi-submerged line we know today. The T brought in 100 buses and the mayor of Boston held a press conference to urge patience - and to avoid driving downtown. Walt Sanders at WBZ reports.

State and Boston officials today detailed their latest efforts to provide alternatives for Orange Line riders and Green Line riders north of Boston for the month-long shutdown that starts Friday night - and to caution that eliminating train service that normally handles 100,000 people on weekdays will affect everybody else in the region as well. Boston Streets Chief Jascha Franklin-Hodge reports contractors began laying down the stencils and paint tonight to create bus lanes down Boylston Street in Copley Square as the first set of temporary bus lanes for the charter buses that will move between Orange Line stations when the trains stop running for a month at 9 p.m. on Friday.

We’re marking around Copley Square now, and moving on to Government Center over the next few nights.

The mayor's office announced this morning that Newbury Street will be closed to vehicles every Sunday between Aug. 21 and Sept. 25, dramatically expanding the Open Newbury Street program of years past and ending worries that the pro-car set had finally won out. Read more.

Truck backing up on Storrow Drive

The driver of one moving truck seemed to have decided to get ready for Allston Christmas by ignoring the "CARS ONLY" signs and getting onto Soldiers Field Road this morning. But as the Boston Struggler shows us, he ultimately decided discretion is the better part of valor, even if that meant doing a backup of shame when confronted with the complex of bridges that signals the change from Soldiers Field Road to Storrow Drive.

The MBTA reports a trolley with an embarrassing door problem at Copley is messing up service on the Green Line. "Trains may be asked to stand by at stations," along with, presumably, their passengers.
