[float=right]IMAGE(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk143/nfsagan/coakley4.jpg)[/float]A lot is being said and written about the effect of a Coakley loss (or win) on Tuesday including:

Gerald Amirault on WEEI (yes Coakley came up)

"When you're accused of something as heinous as child molestation, people are very reluctant to do anything.

And it takes years and years and years for the media to catch up with something like this. And once they did and once the Wall Street Journal starting taking an interest in my case, which is a very conservative law and order type of a newspaper, it kind of put up the antennas for everyone else ...

New Massachusetts unemployment insurance employer Web site crashes and burns upon launch

(Simulblogged here.)

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a convoluted(*) unemployment insurance system, under which employers are required to make various quarterly and annual filings and quarterly payments involving at least two different state agencies.

Republicans distort and exaggerate to manufacture controversy in Senate race

John McCormack of The Weakling Standard blogs about getting "shoved in to a metal railing" by a Coakley staffer Tuesday night after the fund raiser in DC.

Michael Graham exaggerates and distorts the incident reporting in The Corner Blog at the National Review that a "Coakley staffer" was "shoving" McCormack "to the ground" "and then repeatedly shoving him again and again." Who will tell Graham that 'repeatedly' and 'again and again' is redundant? Is Graham a simpleton or an a**hat? Don't answer that, I'm not done yet. Graham claims this incident is the turning point of the campaign.

But everything changed yesterday.

The pragmatism of voting your conscience for US Senate

"The debate basically cemented my extremely reluctant vote for Coakley, with hopes that either she grows into the job or that someone better beats her in the Democratic primary in two years."
- David Yamada 1/12/2010 9:46AM

I suspect a lot of liberals feel the way David Yamada does. I do but I come to a different conclusion about how I should vote. Follow me on this, I’ll explain.

A lot of liberals are extremely reluctant to vote for Coakley and they do so only by holding out hope that she would become a much better Senator than we have any evidence of or reason to believe. Yes ‘ouch’ but true in my estimation.

Just got push-polled by Brown....

... or, strictly speaking, HerrDoktor Toaster was just robo-push-polled by an unidentified entity on our land line.

Attempt to Take Over #39 MBTA Bus Today around 1:30?

What happened to this post? Was this just a hoax? And if it was why was the post just removed instead of revised/updated? Don't leave us wondering!

Coakley's campaign leaves voters in the dark

The problem with the low-key cautious campaign that race leaders with large leads frequently choose to run is that the public does not get to know their candidate very well.

Wicked pissed

I have "Slang O' The Day" as a panel on my iGoogle page. What to my wondering eyes should appear this morning as the first of three entries ? "Wicked pissa." I nearly gagged on my French Toast when I read the entry:
"Origin: American Slang (Boston)
Definition: very funny
Example: Hey Franky, that movie was wicked pissa!"
http://slang.otheday.com/2010/01/wicked-pissa/

It seems that the Boston accent isn't the only thing others can't get right...

I've had it

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Red Line will be forced to stop busing passengers and move our customers with a subway between JFK and Park St. We will provide additional subway cars to lessen your inconvenience. You will be able to re-board your bus and finish your journey after the short subway diversion.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Snowkiting in Franklin Park

Boston parks are stages for our lives. We watch, we walk, we sit, we run. We swing, we slide, and sometimes hang upside down. We play, we compete, we win and loose. We commune. We perform. We celebrate.

And sometimes we do things that delight others, intended or not, like snowkiting in Franklin Park. Click here for photos.

Thanks to both the performer and the photographer.

Boston Recycling Department leaks the names and emails of loser job applicants

This morning the Boston Recycling Program sent a email to applicants for one of their recent open positions, letting them know that they weren't chosen for the position. Nice to know some people actually do let you know either way...but the newsworthy bit is that the program staff member who penned the email forgot to "BCC" the applicants he sent this mass email to. So you didn't get the job with the recycling department? Well, here are the first and last names, along with emails, of the other fifty-some people in the same boat.

Greenway to be exempted from shadow-protection legislation

Yesterday, I dutifully sent in my letter supporting the state House bill protecting major parks from overshadowing by beyond-zoning towers. Today, I find out that "a request was made" to exempt the Greenway from the protective legislation -- so that the BRA can proceed to legalize all those unlawful towers it plans to encourage along the Greenway corridor. Well, gosh, who might have made such a request? Perhaps Mayor Tom Menino, who is officially opposed to the bill, the same Menino who told the Boston Globe last September that we must not canyonize and overshadow the park?

Growing a Parks Network - Its a Beautiful Thing

Twenty organizations, including several that represent coalitions of organizations, got together last week on December 3, 2009 for a Strategy Meeting. We discussed how we can work together to improve our parks in Boston, including both those in the city park system and the state park system, that together, are OUR PARK SYSTEM. A number of good ideas came out around the at-large city council debate on parks and open spaces that we organized in October, and at the meeting we added to them. Then we refined the list, voted on priorities, and discussed the first several in greater detail.

What is a Massachusetts Liberal?

Hey I'm just wondering what exactly is a Massachusetts liberal? Specifically how does an MA liberal differ from other liberals from other parts of the country that also have an obvious large liberal majority such as California or NY?

Bush called Kerry this during a debate some years back and I never knew what he meant by that. Does it mean a liberal who also supports gay marriage since MA was the only state to pass that law?

Any honest answers appreciated. Thanks.

MORE CHOICES, MORE VOICES?

Related to "WGBH's new slogan sounds awfully familiar"
By adamg - 12/3/09 - 9:35 pm
http://www.universalhub.com/2009/wgbhs_new_slogan_...

I notice the WGBH newsletter is named "MORE CHOICES, MORE VOICES"

From the NOV. 25-30, 2009 edition

On December 1, WGBH is bringing WCRB 99.5 into our family of noncommercial, listener-supported public broadcasting stations, preserving a full-time classical service that otherwise would have switched to another format. With this acquisition, WGBH is moving all our classical music programming to the new station, where classical fans can enjoy a robust, 24/7 service, on air and online.

Jack Robinson to Scott Brown: "Stop Hating the Gays!"

This is a great story written on BlueMassGroup.com about U.S. Senate Candidate Jack E. Robinson's most recent mailer against his opponent State Senator Scott Brown who hates gays. Hopefully Jack Robinson's message will take out Scott Brown next Tuesday in the December 8th Republican Primary.
