The Booby Blog

BY CHRISTINA PARKER, FORCV Blogger

I bet you thought all the breast talk was over now that October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is long gone.  But sometimes I need a little distance in order to reflect…

On October 2, 2009 at 4:05 pm, Boston.com posted the following on Facebook: “October is breast cancer awareness month. So, like every year, pink is everywhere. What do you think of the pink product craze? Supporting a good cause, or profiting from others' misfortune?”  It referenced an article which I did not read at the time.  But the question stayed with me.

Anybody know what was going on on Belgrade Ave, upper 200 block near Ardent St., this morning? About 7 BPD cars and a Dedham car surrounded an apt. building. Scary scene.

Boston's Immigrant Community Leaders Endorse Mayor Menino

Source: www.forcv.com

DORCHESTER - Leaders from several immigrant groups came together yesterday at Restaurant Laura to formally endorse Mayor Menino for reelection.

One by one, they stood in front of a diverse crowd of immigrants to praise Mayor Menino for his work in supporting and including newcomers in the new Boston. Most of them stated that they decided to endorse Mayor Menino because of his commitment to diversity and immigrant workers' rights. The crowd included immigrants from Russia, Haiti, Cape Verde, Vietnam, China, Somalia, Brazil, and Dominican Republic.

Today's Comcast Sucks story: Conceals service fee increase as "equipment charge" increase

Comcast thinks that its customers won't notice if it increases their monthly service charge by $2, if they call it an "equipment charge" increase rather than a service charge increase. They're increasing their revenue by $358 million per year without taking on any additional costs or providing any additional services. Consumers, fight back!

Historic change for Boston

Dear Universal Hub,

Tomorrow, we are announcing our historic ticket to change Boston politics forever.

One week ago, almost 50% of voters had the courage to vote for change. With their vote, they sent a message to Boston: it is time to transform the way we do business in City Hall with new leadership and a fresh perspective.

Home Mortgage Loan Modification within No Time!

You don’t have time to waste when foreclosure is looming on the horizon. Although home loan modification does tend to slow down the process, there won’t be too many options left if you wait too long.

Has Michael Flaherty lost one of his children?

A recent political mass mailing from Michael Flaherty has a charming photo of him, his wife, and three of his kids, with this text above it (emphasis added):

A husband, father and lifelong rsident of Boston, Michael is a graduate of Boston College Law School, Boston College, and Boston University School of Law. Michael and his wife Laurene have four children, three of whom attend the Boston Public Schools.

Um, OK, so just out of curiosity, what about child number four?

Boycott the Hyatt!

Unfortunately, Hyatt doesn't value its room cleaning staff one cent above minimum wage, because what they've done is to outsource all the housekeeping jobs to a minimum wage company that provides no benefits to its workers. If that's the priority Hyatt places on its room cleaning services, do you want to stay there again?

Here's a link to the WBZ story on the layoffs.
