where's the proofreader?

What-were-they-thinking errors in today's Brookline Tab:

- In an article on a new production of "My Fair Lady":

People liked Harrison, and that’s the trick, because Higgins has his faults, spending lots of time berating Eliza (remember the “impotent hussy” lyric?).

Um, no, I don't. Mainly because the lyric is "impudent hussy," something hussies are generally much more known for than impotence.

Minor victories

With our neighborhoods increasingly overrun by bank branches, it must count as a minor victory that only half of the former CVS store abandoned when the pharmacy moved across the street is a bank.

The other half is a shiny new branch of the Chipotle chain. They were giving out free burritos at their official opening yesterday. When I rode by at about 6, the line was out-the-door and down to the corner by the Store24.

Sexiest economic policy ever

There were a couple LaRouchies handing out fliers outside South Station this morning. They were announcing that the Fed cares more about European banks than they do about American citizens and thus is hyperinflating the dollar. One of them did get my attention, however, when he asked, "Sir, are you going to let Bernanke stimulate your package?"

Globe blogger a Russert accomplice

In Thursday's Republican debate, Tim Russert issued one of his inane Russertian gotchas, catching John McCain in a contradiction over whether or not he's ever said he's ignorant on matters economic.

Over at the Globe's Political Intelligence blog, James Smith supplies prosecutor Russert with the evidence.

Why I Have Decided to Leave UniversalHub (for awhile, anyway):

Hello out there, folks.

Just to let you all know that, after afew weeks of thinking this through, I've made my final decidion. I've decided to leave UniversalHub for the following reasons:

A) It's very clear, that, due to my different style of posting, interacting, conversing, communicating, writing and socializing, and a different way of looking things generally, that I do not fit in here.

B) There are plenty of things that I would've liked to engage in discourse about besides everything Boston, and it's clear that there's no room for that here.

The scenic way to work

Thanks to a downed electric line somewhere around Ruggles and Back Bay, commuter rail is all bolloxed up this morning. Coming in from Providence, they sent us onto the "Dorchester Line" (I didn't even know there was one!), which took us around those two stations, much to the consternation of those who planned to get off there.

Even without stops, we're still 15+ minutes late to South Station. I wonder how long it'll take to fix this mess!

Not-so-green church

The Boston Archdiocese is moving its administrative offices to a donated office building in Braintree that is more than one mile from any T service.

Not green. Not good for the church's poor constituents.

Bad decision.

False advertising

Someone posted a flyer outside my building this morning:

"End the war. Google Ron Paul."

So I did. Didn't work.

Erik Joseph

Anybody have an update on this case? I know he was supposed to be arraigned last Tuesday and there was a lot of press in November and December, but it seems as if things got really quiet all of a sudden.

we dodged the bullet, but next time my winter disaster communications tips might help!

In Medfield I think we lost power for less than an hour today, but it was a reminder that reallly bad weather (even in '78 we didn't lose power, but remember that Quebec ice storm???)normal communications might be disrupted, and we'd be on our own.
