We West Roxburyans need to be more considerate drivers, especially in the 'hood. Too many of us are in too much of a hurry, and we go through stop signs, cut corners, don't give signals, take rights on red when the no-no sign is there (like in front of the Library/CVS @ Bellevue St.)etc., etc. Please, let's be considerate of one another.
It will make your day!!!!

I don't take the commuter rail in town every day, but when I do I've seen the same woman hawking the Metro at South Station for years. About this time last year I even saw her talking to candidate Chris Gabrieli on the platform one morning. Usually I saw her in the mornings on my way in. Tonight I saw her handing out free copies of the Herald on my way home at 5:10. Has the Herald stolen some of the competition's best talent?

I have often opined that the large student population here in Boston is a driving force behind what makes this city so great. From the indie rock scene, to the cheap-o food and drink options, to the nerd-hungry companies that set up shop here, I have long felt that I am fortunate to live in a city with such a heavy college and college student presence.
But this weekend, as I was held hostage in my apartment, blocked in by 16 rental trucks and piles of trash, and later awakened by drunken college students screaming at 4am, I began to question how much these co-eds really bring to the city.

So here is my question. Does anyone have a definitive answer as to what the Old North Church was called at the time of the American Revolution? I have unearthed some "family" historical documents stashed away since that time period that seem to indicate that Paul Revere's signals were actually sent from the Old North Meeting House. Would love to hear a response.

Yes: any substance that has harmful effects on a players’ health should be banned. And Harrison should be punished for breaking the rules. And I’d love to see harmful steroids and supplements eliminated.
First, many of us break the rules every day - stealing from work, lying on taxes, speeding, intentionally running red lights, watching or listening to copyrighted material online, bloging at work thus stealing company time, etc, and no one calls us "liars, cheaters, and thieves" - yet we are.

The famous of science and math passed through Harvard’s gates in the 20th century. In the matter of physics, there was New Yorker J. Robert Oppenheimer. He studied first chemistry, but found the percolating field of physics of more interest. He attended lectures by Whitehead and Bohr. Still, he nurtured a love for literature. He was a great polymath. He read The Waste Lan, and wrote poetry of sadness and loneliness. He edited a school literary journal known as The Gad-Fly [under the auspices of the Liberal Club at 66 Winthrope St]. After Harvard, he discovered Proust.

A lot of people seem to be, including our friends at New England's Largest Newspaper.
Its been years since I read the Sunday Comics with any regularity, but I still check it out every once in a while to make sure Janis didn't leave Arlo or anything crazy like that. (I recommend F Minus, my current favorite Globe comic.) Today, though, the Globe made the brave editorial decision to not print a certain comic, and instead replace it with an oldie from 2004. The comic's offense? A horrendous attack on all that Muslims around the world hold dear.

Ok, so I've been living in Boston for 2 years and there's still so much for me to see. The internet is nice but so impersonal, and I for one don't like PDAs and Blackberry type of things. My biggest help has been MAP BOSTON. For anyone who graduated recently and and wants to add a little adventure into their daily organization, MAP BOSTON is made for you. Imagine a day planner fused with a city guide for locals. It rocks, it's fun, and it's worth checking out.

I saw Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul & Mary fame) performing at The Brattle Theater this past Saturday. He performed a song entitled "Don't Laugh At Me" and it hit me very hard. I have never cried at a concert before, but I did on Saturday. I was teased a lot as a child and this song just brought a lot of the repressed sadness to the surface, I guess.
I just started a series on my own blog - I expect it to run for a month or more - but I wanted to share the lyrics to this song as soon as possible, so I'm posting them here. I hope you find them as lovely as I did.

I've got two tickets to see Sonny Landreth, an awesome slide guitarist, at RegattaBar on Thursday night (August 16). I only need one of the tickets, as it turns out, so I'm looking for a home for the other one. If anyone out there is a fan of Sonny Landreth (or of blues and zydeco-flavored music in general) and would like the other ticket, Email Me and let me know.

Boston's one of the brainiest cities in the United States, and in the world, and only blogs such as this can be and are produced, that're totally intolerant of different styles of posting, and people who disagree with them. A lot of you transplanted midwesterners on here are so anxious to blend in and act like so-called "true" Bostonians/Bay Staters, that you come off as being exactly what you are---outsiders! It's no wonder that a lot of the true local yokels around here really can't stand you!

Just a quick question for you: Have you eaten any Rainier Cherries in the past week or so?

I ask because I had the most amazing stomach ache on Tuesday morning, lasting well into Wednesday. It was bad enough to send me home from work early on Tuesday. MY WIFE also came down with a bad stomach ache, hers starting on Wednesday.

I just finished reading the new book by Laura Sessions Stapp entitled "Unhooked" and was transported back in time to 8th grade. The very first page of the introduction was itself an amazingingly accurate portrayal of what I witnessed one Saturday night about 7 years ago. It is a little clearer to me why girls today have no positive role models. Pantyless Britney Spears and pseudo-pornstar Paris Hilton must have grown up in West Roxbury and had Lindsay Lohan as their driver.
