I don't live there

I don't have any personal interest in what happens here but here's two pieces of information that local residents might find interesting:

Nika Elugardo has had an impressive career so far. She was a senior policy advisor to state Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, founded departments at the Emmanuel Gospel Center to provide education, youth violence prevention and anti-trafficking and more.

During her career Elugardo has worked to help people. She managed the National Consumer Law Center's Foreclosure Prevention Project, bringing housing advocates and banking institutions together. The project had an 88 percent success rate of keeping people in their homes, according to Elugardo's campaign website.

Sanchez brushed off tensions between the House and Senate, including the suggestion from one senior Senate Democrat that Sanchez's inexperience -- this is his first budget as Ways and Means chairman -- has contributed to the delay.

"Nah, the issues are too big. It's a big budget and everybody wants to see us working together and at the end of the day we're going to get it done and I'd love to see it done as soon as possible,' Sanchez said when asked about the bad blood.

As for criticism of his inexperience at the helm of Ways and Means, Sanchez said: "Well, I don't play baseball. I'm the only Puerto Rican who doesn't play baseball. I cook. So it's all good. I can't say anything to that. All I can say is I've been here a long time and I work hard and that's my MO and that's what it will be until I'm cold and hard."

Sanchez is Bad for the Elderly

By on

Dont know anything about Elugardo but can say Sanchez is bad for the elderly. Governor Baker discriminates against the elderly in health care, Several legislators have tried to rectify this in part including a bill which has 50 legislator sponsers but Sanchez first as chair of health and finance and then as chair of ways and means has managed to block most of this and at any rate as chair of these committees has done nothing to get them passed.

Nika vs. Deleo

Nika is bit left of many of my personal political beliefs but I'll vote for her over a Deleo rubber stamp like Sanchez.

Let me know if Sanchez ever does anything for the MBTA in general or anything in his district south of Hyde Square with his new leadership position as it will be the first time.
