Cambridge Police today released their most detailed update yet on how a CPD officer's gun came to discharge in a restroom at Cambridge Rindge and Latin. As you may recall, in the last update we were told, the officer had entered the stall to use the facilities and somehow the gun went off. Transit Police report on what, so far, is the weirdest MBTA crash of the year:

4/10 12:15AM Fitchburg Line between Cambridge & Belmont unknown person/s left a boat on the right of way. An #MBTA commuter rail train did strike the boat. No injuries were reported & no damage to train. TPD Detectives to follow up.

The Crimson reports the university, after long and careful consideration of the sort only Harvard can mount after ten years of criticism, has "removed the human skin binding from a book held in Houghton Library and apologized for 'past failures in its stewardship of the book'." Read more.

Wanted for scrawling swastikas at Central Square

Transit Police report they are looking for a guy they say took time out of his no doubt busy day to scrawl swastikas inside the Central Square Red Line station, around 5 a.m. on March 11.

Cambridge Day reports a federal judge this week dismissed a lawsuit by a Cambridge cop who was disciplined for a Facebook post he made while off duty in which he made disparaging remarks about George Floyd in 2021. Read more.

Transit Police report they are looking for a man who maced numerous passengers on a Green Line trolley at Lechmere around 2:25 p.m. yesterday and a woman who sprayed Lysol into the eyes of a driver of a Green Line shuttle bus at Babcock Street around 11 p.m. on Feb. 21.

A native of South Sudan who allegedly had dreams of moving from Harvard's Kennedy School to the presidency of his homeland was arrested on Monday on charges he and an accomplice were planning to export enough anti-tank missiles, grenade launchers, automatic rifles and ammunition to take over the beleaguered nation. In the 1950s and 1960s, a unit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, collected and investigated UFO sightings - including a number in the Boston area (two in West Roxbury alone). Read more.
