Can Mitt count this as foreign relations experience? It was a nice example of restraint.

I suspect so. West Coast Canadians certainly follow US news, it beaming across the border all the time. As such, Mitt was probably "recognized". But this is wild speculation.

On the other hand, anybody who follows the news would recommend against pulling a stunt in Vancouver airport. [Read: RCMP flippantly tazing people to death].

I guess guess that gives him one more instance than Obama had before taking office.

OH DAMN, you got em good!

Except, wait, Obama served on the US Senate Foreign Relations committee. And was Chairman of the senate subcomittee on European Affairs. And went on several state trips abroad. And met with foreign leaders.

Oh but we won't let THAT stand in the way of a great zinger like that!!!!!

Wait, she went to college in Hawaii for a few months but left because there were two many Hawaiians. Doesn't that count? They were foreign-looking people.

The whole thing about seeing Russia from Alaska doesn't reach the bar in my opinion but she actually lived in Hawaii among foreign-looking people until I suppose she couldn't take it anymore. Six colleges in as many years is more a testament to her gumption than a knock on her intolerance.

She's hoping she doesn't need Hawaiian or Alaskan vote to win a national election.

Turning now back to the topic. Mitt's instincts to do the telling instead of waiting for the flight attendant to his or her job is what brought this upon him, the air-rage not withstanding. As Pete nice would say, he owns some of the responsibility for sticking his nose in other people's business on the wrong flight.

The guy was probably pissed because at first Romney said it was fine for the guy to have his seat back. Then he evolved to see that perhaps the guy should in fact put his seat upright. When people around Mitt seemed to disagree with him, Mitt said do what you want. Then the Mitt told him that times being what they are, while he personally believes you should adjust your seat where you want it, that its best for his seat to upright.

I think its reasonable the guy tried to punch Willard.

Um, the plane was getting ready for take off, and the guy dropped his seat into Anne Romney's lap. That isn't okay on any plane that I've ever been on, besides being, um, rude?

No gray area there.

Is your satire receptor turned off today, anon-o-rama?

The poster you responded to was making a joke, drawing a comparison to his political flipflopping.

They did have to abort the takeoff and a guy was ripped from the aircraft in an untimely way - didn't Romney ever consider his choices here? Shouldn't he always Choose Flight?

Look, neither you nor I was on the flight. For all we know, the guy wasn't in fact a Canadian, but was in fact a Democratic operative (sure, ACORN, why not) who hacked his way into the seat-assignment algorithms in an attempt to covertly crush Romney's legs, assuring he wouldn't be able to run in 2012. These things do happen sometimes.

When Brett tells you the satirical subtext is obvious... the satirical subtext is obvious.

It'd be like me saying "That's not an appropriate topic for humor".

Somehow, I doubt that Romney (former presidential candidate, MA governor, head of Olympics) was completely innocent here. Especially since the only source of info was Romney's spokesperson (what, they couldn't find the phone number for the RMCP, or the airline?)

This is the man who started screaming at an Olympic volunteer, a couple of sheriff's deputies AND the head of basin security, dropping the F-bomb all over the place, and then later lied about it.

He also lost it in front of national press when an AP reporter challenged him about his false claim that he didn't have lobbyists working on his campaign.

So, Mr. Entitled With Temper gets on a plane with the unwashed masses. Passenger in the seat in front of Mrs. Entitled dares to lower his seat into her Zone.

How many of you think Romney responded politely, and then when the Unwashed Passenger refused (rightly so, everyone has a right to put their seat back, it's there for a reason) continued to be a polite gentleman?

Don't they tell you that on every flight you take?

"They" usually isn't some slick-haired douche in the seat behind me.

...seems like they could have just strapped him to a carrier on top of the plane.

btw to Brett: check the CBC feed where they actually interview the other passengers who don't say much different. (The first I heard of this was an e-mail from my brother in Alberta). If Romney really wanted wingnut cred, he'd have pulled a gun on the guy and "taken control" or at least concocted a hero story - not behaved himself appropriately.

...he wouldn't be caught dead in a socialist hellhole like our Neighbours to the North are suffering under.

is that what Glenn told you or did you make that one all up on your own like a big boy?

Beer, poutine, hockey, health care, Broken Social Scene... yes, sounds like a complete nightmare.

Here's a hint for you. An actual wingnut wouldn't use the Canadian spelling of "Neighbours".

Here's a hint for me. Sarcasm really really doesn't seem to work on the Internet.

Certainly not the kind of sarcasm where you say exactly what the person you are mocking did/would say (See SNL take on the Palin/Couric interview).

That blind slam on canada was right on TEA party script.....

Seriously, folks this is a guy who lived in Belmont for how long and never ONCE ate at the Andros Diner. The owner told me that just last night. I, for one, can't wait until he runs again. My life has been a whole lot emptier since they stopped publishing the "Four Brothers" blog on Mitt's website. I miss my daily Tagg fix.

My specific hate for Mitt Romney versus my generalized hate for seat-pusher-backers....this is kind of a tough call.

In fairness, I'm always seated behind 5-feet-two-inches of entitlement who feels their ticket price includes my lap. That said, if you're not going to go all-the-way crazy and push the offending seat forward, it's probably best to either stay quiet or alert a crew member.

...and that is, The reason Mitt was in Coach. Is he cheap/thrifty/fiscally responsible? or is the IOC, the same organization that bribes the living hell out of people with the best goodie bags ever, cheap for inviting him to the opening ceremonies so long as he flies coach. If I had that type of cash I'd spring for the upgrade on such a long flight.

I'd wager that the most convenient flight didn't offer any first class seating, or it was fully booked. I didn't see anywhere that they were flying coach, and not business class, either. I would suspect that Romney would prefer business or first class even if he weren't cash-loaded because of his height and Anne's mobility issues.
