No sunny side up in Somerville food fight

Two Ball Square breakfast joints have been slinging the hash at each other for the past six months. Cops have been called, the mayor has gotten involved:

... But last week an olive branch was extended when Ball Square Cafe owner Mike Moccia sent a written apology to his past foe, Sound Bites owner Yasser Mirza. He also sent the letter to [Mayor] Curtatone. ...

Mirza, however, refuses to table the dispute; won't serve up a return apology.

I don't get what the issue is here. Whenever I take the family to breakfast, we feel very lucky to get into Kelly's Diner, Sound Bites, or The Ball Square Cafe in anything less than a half hour. We get the cel phones out and cover three lines sometimes!

Even in the summer months, there seems to be enough business to go around. Before Sound Bites expanded and the Ball Square opened, we didn't bother because we knew we wouldn't get in at all. Now there is enough capacity to draw more people because there is some hope of eating before noon.

Maybe the need to step back, count breakfasts served, and realize that having so much capacity is really drawing people to the area.

Moccia (who was Mirza's landlord) kicked Mirza out, practically photocopied the menu, and poached Mirza's chef. All that changed was the proprietor and the name over the door.

In otherwords, typical Boston slumlord crap.

So, then Mirza decided to fuck him over by re-opening his cafe about 2 doors down from where he used to be, and competing against Moccia (and hopefully driving him into the ground.)

Now, go figure that Mirza has a line out the door, and Moccia doesn't- at least the times I've been there.

There's a reason Moccia is playing all humble and nice- he's the one who tried to fuck over his tenant, and now more and more people are finding out about it! If he wants to truly make up for it, he should close "his" cafe and move it somewhere else.

Their fighting is so annoying. I don't care which place I eat breakfast at - I just want something to eat and not wait forever to get that. Both have decent food for breakfast. I tried sound bites for dinner once and it was awful.

Instead when I'm eating at either place - half the breakfast I hear the owner(s) complain about each other to the patrons. It's unprofessional. Drop it. I don't care who's a jerk or why. Make the food, serve the customers, and shut up about the fight. There's plenty of business for breakfast for both of them.

1. The silly "you done stole my bizniss" bickering between two breakfast restaurants which are both packed to the gills every weekend, or

2. The non-cartoon accompanying the article, or

3. The fact that the very first comment to the article appears to be from one of the legendary immigrant-hatin' trolls who infest the Somerville news sites like weeds in the garden. Roll eyes, shake head, kick Web2.0 in the shins.

Seems to be an ugly situation all around.

Saying you're sorry after putting someone in the hospital does not magically make it all better.

Some of the other comments on here alluded to some of the dirty tricks that have been played on Yasser since he opened the new place and I won't go into that, but bad dinner? Best middle eastern plate around IMHO, and you can get breakfast for dinner if you want.
