Stay away from dry gulches and pretty much all of Somerville starting around 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for most of the Boston area starting at 6 p.m., with the possibility we could get up to 5 inches of rain in spots:

THIS MAY RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT RAPID FLOODING OF URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...INCLUDING ROADWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ISOLATED SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE.

OK, the NWS doesn't name Somerville specifically, but it didn't fare very well the last time we got a ton of rain all at once.

but it has already stopped here. Remember that Somerville is a city of seven hills and that a flood on top of Winter Hill or Prospect Hill is quite unlikely.

Hopefully now that Somerville Ave has been repaved (did they finish all of it?), making the storm drains at the same level as the roadway, perhaps drainage there will be better.

Good thing we live up a hill, I guess (Watch out below!). No wind at all though, so it's more like your basic summer downpour than what you'd expect from a hurricane.

After the July flooding I heard it said that the reason Somerville was hit so hard was that "somebody" either closed/opened or failed to open/close a valve/gate/something that should have taken the excess water away, so that it didn't. If you see what I mean.

Any truth in this? I am concerned because the majority of my household goods, personal possessions, etc. are currently residing in a warehouse in Somerville. *gulp*

The said warehouse did get flooded last time, though the flooding stopped before it reached the section we are in.
