Three arrested for murder of pizza delivery man

Mathurin

Boston Police report arresting two Hyde Park men and a Mattapan woman on charges they stabbed Richel Nova to death when he delivered a pizza to the vacant Hyde Park Avenue house they had allegedly broken into late Wednesday night.

Michel Andre St. Jean, 20, of Hyde Park; Alexander Emmanuel Gallett, 18, of Hyde Park and Yamiley Mathurin, 17, of Mattapan, are all charged with murder, armed robbery and armed breaking and entering of a dwelling house.

"Richel Nova was a hard-working man, making an honest living to provide for his family when he was preyed upon by three vicious thugs," Police Commissioner Ed Davis said. "For a small amount of money, these suspects committed unspeakable acts of violence while showing Mr. Nova no mercy. The criminal justice system should equally show no mercy in determining their punishment."

Nova, 58, of Hyde Park, was found dead shortly before midnight on Sept. 2 at 742 Hyde Park Ave. His car was found abandoned the next morning behind St. Adalbart's Church, about two miles away on River Street in Hyde Park.

"His killers likely didn't target him personally, but they selected a worker who would be carrying the small amount of money they felt was worth a human life," Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said. "They stabbed him repeatedly, killing him. They fled the scene in his car, taking the money and food he had brought."

He added, "We commit the same resources to every single homicide case, regardless of who the victim may be and how his or her death is reported. But we also recognize that some murders are particularly chilling in their callousness. The stabbing death of Heureur Previlon, an aspiring minister killed in his taxicab five years ago, is a point of reference. So is the shooting death of Surendra Dangol, a peaceful Nepali immigrant shot to death behind a shop counter in Jamaica Plain last year.

"I put Mr. Nova's murder in this category. They were working men who asked nothing more than the chance to earn an honest day's pay.Their lives were taken as they labored long And I ask you to keep their families in your prayers."

The three are scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in West Roxbury District Court.

Innocent, etc.

By all appearances, great work BPD and Suffolk DA. Keep it up.

BOSTON POLICE often have trouble eliciting information from scared or reluctant neighbors after a violent crime. But alert residents stepped up quickly following the late Wednesday slaying of pizza delivery driver Richel Navo in Hyde Park. The public’s rapid response reflects the level of disgust for the crime and the well of sympathy for the victim.

[...]

[1] The prospect of solving the murder has been aided significantly by alert residents who noticed the getaway vehicle in a church parking lot and called police.

[2] A woman also has stepped forward to tell police that she may unwittingly have allowed one of the suspects to use her cell phone shortly before the crime.

I'll wait to see who is convicted. I don't want to inadvertently dump loathing on an innocent party.

Look on the bright side ,the Boston Police just arrested 2 people for growing pot. What, you didn't think the cops were actually going to solve a real crime did you?Let me tell you how this will "end".The cops we name 3 people for this crime.A hasty and messy investigation will leave many reasonable areas of "reasonable doubt" to show through. The cops will keep key evidence from the defense. The "wrong people" will go to jail for this crime.A new lawyer[s] will take the case and convince a judge or jury that the sloppy police work(typical and don't forget that one cop dealing with the investigation will have a "dirty secret" come out to compromise the conviction)and the 3 that were detained and questioned for 20 or more hours without an attorney will be set free years later. The real killer[s] will have gotten away with this killing.I know you've all heard this story[s] before so be prepared...You might hear it again.BPD...what a joke...I cant really laugh...Because their the ones laughing all the way to the bank at my and your expense.

Great work by the police. These three will be tried and convicted. No doubt they will all try and 'outrat' one another. I'll bet one will get time knocked off for testifying against the other two. Three more parasites to feed for the next forty years. It's too bad we're so enlightened here in Massachusetts that there is no capital punishment.

How do you know they will be convicted? Are you already aware of overwhelming evidence?

An arrest this quick from videotape evidence tells me they had some great leads, witnesses, etc.

I don't think that the speedy arrests alone give 100% certainty of conviction. I'll wait and see.

my guess is these rocket scientists called from one of their own cell phones. Another probably boasted to the wrong person who has a soul.

I', not one for capital punishment because I don't believe the state does a good enough case 70% of the time to give them that power; but if this is open and shut; I say it's time to bring back the gallows and hang these frakers in public.

are you kidding...overwhelming evidence ? Yes , they framed a 17 and 18 year old High school student so they(the police) could get back to their Labor day festivities. This poor middle age guy was delivering pizza's and they didn't just rob him, they brutally murdered him ...how barbaric.

What leads you to say that they have arrested the wrong people?

They should all get the same sentence, if they all knowingly participated in the murder. The DA should only offer deals if absolutely necessary.

I used to see this guy all the time getting into and out of his car in the lot behind 690 Truman, off Fairmont Ave, where the Dominos is located.

Hang them all from a tree in the common like the old day....after a fair trial and conviction of course...then hang them.

It pretty clearly says "Female", yet you say "I used to see this guy getting into and out of his car". How well did you actually see?

as he worked at the Domino's on Truman Highway.
At first glance I had the same thought, though.

Ron, don't be a smart ass...it's not winning you any points.

I did not sufficiently differentiate in my poorly written post.

I used to see the victim all the time coming and going from his car, parked in the lot behind 690 Truman, off Fairmont, by the Fairmont train station. I often nodded hello to him and he would nod to me and smile.

The myspace page is from one of the (alleged) perps/savages

Ron,

I was referring to the victim, not the myspace b*tch. Saw the victim many times coming and going, nodded hello to him numerous times, he always nodded back.

Ironically, Ms. Mathurin describes herself as one on her MySpace profile - she also gives her reasons, and argues that anyone who does not approve of her greatness is a hater. She appears to be very proud of this self-appellation.

That "playa" mindset is a lot like Bostonian mindset. Just different words.

If you don't like gangsta glorification, blame the record companies that manufacture it for the well-off suburban white kids.

Yamiley Mathurin attended HS in Hull, my bet is probably as a privileged METCO kid. Yet she still turned around it did something like this.

South Shore Charter Public School, not a regular public school. Does METCO cover charter schools?

From a school newsletter last year: "The Level IV and High School Environmental Workshop students sent out Earth Hour bags to the school community. This effort was led by Christina Santiago and Yamiley Mathurin. "

Oh, but feel free to visit our horrible school any time!

That's "Hyde Park High - Community Academy of Science and Health"!

The name's a lot better than the school itself, I'm afraid.
