Campaign roundup: Bill Galvin has an intense fear of public speaking

That's one possible explanation for why the Prince of Darkness refuses to debate his opponents.

Speaking of debates, Frank and Bielat debate at 3 p.m. today on WBUR. You can submit questions.

Martha Coakley is busy spreading Halloween cheer in newsrooms, handing out candy to reporters, at least, the ones dressed like they're getting ready for a safari on the Veldt.

The Globe takes a look at Questions 1 and 3, which would cut booze taxes and the overall sales tax, respectively. The Outraged Liberal warns of slashed firehouses and schools if Question 3 passes. Downtown Lynn exhorts a No vote on those two questions and Question 2, on affordable housing. Marjorie Arons-Barron considers Question 2, concludes it should be fixed, not thrown out entirely.

Punditocracy: Brian McGrory reports from a men's room (really!), concludes both Patrick and Baker are good people. The Globe endorses a bunch of Republican candidates for state senate because, hey, two-party government is good. Also, Mike Rush is an autocrat. The Herald endorses Perry, Bielat and Golnik for Congress for much the same reason, but finds un-birther Hudak too wacky even for its tastes. The Republican Operative at the Incredible Shrinking Tabloid doesn't like Steve Grossman.

Two things.

1) Jim Henderson, you really, really need to stop bulging out your eyes when you make YouTube videos. It is very creepy and disconcerting. See this video and this one.

2) Mr. Galvin has never debated and never will, because he doesn't need to. He has been Secretary for sixteen years and people love him. He will win this election with ease. Debating is simply not in his best interest.

Anon: I am one of the MANY people who do not like Galvin and will not vote for him. I attended the forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Newton and was shocked that Galvin was not there. The other candidates were and explained their positions coherently. Who cares that he has been in office for 16 years? He doesn't own that office. He should have some balls and show up and explain why he has done almost nothing while in office. The Sec of State's website looks like it is from 1990. I mean, come on. he is afraid to debate because he knows he will lose. I am sure he took mock trial in law school.

And by the way, Galvin is using a commercial from when he was looking for Madoff victims and added maybe 5 seconds to it.

That was exactly my point. It is not in his best interest to debate.

See, you say you don't like him, but you seem like a person who is involved, or at least interested, in politics. Most of the four million registered voters in Massachusetts know next to nothing about Bill Galvin or his office, other than the fact that he has been Secretary for almost two decades. Name recognition in a race like this is so amazingly important. Do you think voters in Worcester, for example, are going to care about, or even KNOW about, the fact that he didn't show up to some forum in Newton? Nope. They will see his name, recognize it, and check the box.

He will win by at least a 40% spread. You know it and I know it. Whether or not he deserves to is another matter.

Doesn't this count as a debate at some level?
