Ad riposte

If you're going to put an ad like that on the Red Line, you have to expect somebody to reply. Jessie Bennett provides the proof.

It's http://www.itasoftware.com/careers.

I saw the same ad but someone had written the response instead of using a post-it

= people who can not only solve the puzzle, but realize that the ad is making a YER MOM joke?

Then a better response would be "Dude, I explained it to your mom last night."

That is *so* what I thought when I saw that ad. Only said by a stick figure wearing a black hat.

The point is can the person who wrote the note solve the puzzle. I am willing to bet Mom already has a job.

I took it as: "mom" needn't be used to represent the less intelligent lay person who needs to have difficult problems distilled down to her level.

Perhaps someone's mom has a Ph.D. in math, and therefore has the mental skills to understand the problem on her own.

I like the ad, and I like the response to it, too; they both make their points nicely.

Keep in mind, if this ad were written in the 1950's, it would have used slang for "african american" instead of "mom."

I was offended.

It wouldn't have said that. No way. Come on. Grow up and read a book.

"Can you explain it to your maid?"

I'm a mom, with a grown son. I've been working in IT for close to 30 years, and would be overqualified for most of the jobs they're hiring for.

I wonder if this stereotype they're perpetuating that my demographic is dull and inept would influence their hiring practices.

They used to just ask you to solve the puzzle. Guess that didn't work out perfectly.
