Day on the Charles

Vikas Anand spent some time along the Charles River recently, capturing the Hyatt in Cambridge and the BU Bridge and the dock near it on the other side of the river.

BU Boathouse is in Fenway, not Allston. BU Bridge demarcates the two.

The big ol' BU Boathouse is in Cambridge, and I've fixed the photo caption. But what is that boathouse-ish thing on the Boston side of the river?

MIT used the term "boathouse" for the building where the rowing teams stored gear, launched and trained. They use the term "sailing pavillion" for the building where the sailboats were kept.

"Boathouse" is usually where crew shells are stored. Other terms are used for sailing facilities - typically "Sailing Pavilion" - like that BU building on the Boston side of the river.

According to the BU recreation info:

The Boston University Sailing Pavilion is located under the Boston University Bridge on the Boston side of the Charles River. To get there, take the Marsh Chapel Footbridge, located near the BU Beach, to the Esplanade. Turn left and walk toward the BU Bridge.
