Adams Park was simply radishing today

Radishes

The Roslindale Farmers' Market opened its 2011 season this morning in Adams Park, with fresh produce and meat from local farms and knicknacks of all sorts. Also music. This guy really knew how to blow his own horn:

Nothing beats a loaf of bread almost as tall as you are from Fornax:

They're so cute when they're that age:

A little whoopie:

The market's open every Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through the end of October. More info.

It seemed like peak season with the crowd out there in Roslindale Village on opening day of the Farmers' Market today!

It's nice that radishes can be harvested so early. But then again, they taste like radishes.

Dirt apples my nephew called them after adventurously trying one.

The problem with most radishes these days is that they DON'T taste like radishes. Can't remember the last time I had a properly hot, peppery radish.

Stewart you are SO RIGHT! My partner and I have been saying for years how radishes have been radically DE-flavored in order to, apparently, appeal more broadly to a modern American palatte that can't stand strong flavors. We both remember in our childhood eating radishes that were spicy hot. I don't think my grandfather would even bother to eat most of what you get at the store now. You might have better luck with some of the varieties you can buy at the Farmers Market. Right now we're looking for heirloom seeds to grown in our own garden that will bring back the heat!
